Yet another social faux pas!

We have recently had some guests over to visit and they caught me baking some chocolate cakes. We don't mind guests popping in, even if we are up to our eyeballs in busyness, There I was mixing the chocolate sponge mix, and the child of the couple very politely asked "Can I lick the bowl out please?" To which I replied "No, you can use the flush like everyone else!" I don't think the young couple appreciated my sense of humour!

In case you get asked again, the best excuse it that the batter has unpasteurised egg. But the flush response probably went over their heads.

We often eat raw eggs straight from the hen, so we are not worried about that issue. But the flush was just a bit of my lavatorial humour

@destry Yes, but if your friends have a kid they may not be so hardy with their eating habits. I used to do a really good choc mousse as my standard dinner party pud but had to stop when friends reached the 'having babies' age and I couldn't risk that somebody might be pregnant.

@boiboing True, but all the people we know are hardy types - none of these people with allergies or finickyness when it comes to food. As for pregnancy, I doubt the the 8 year old boy was! Hmmm I love choc mouse!

Very funny. We no longer lick the batter because the raw eggs can make you sick.

We do not mind raw eggs in our house, we eat them raw daily, some of their nutritional value is lost through cooking.

I hear that a lot...but I truly don't know one person that has ever gotten sick from licking the spoon and the bowl.

When you drop in you take what you get, even in the way of humor.
