I have a wonderful surprise today. I baked banana cakes for all my friends here on MyLot. You know I told you about having way too many bananas well today is one of those days. I have 2 cakes in the oven and 6 more lined up to go in. I thought it would be nice to share them with everyone today. Here is my problem. I need to frost your cakes. But on the Islands we don’t have powdered sugar like you have. No folks there is no C&H Powered Sugar here. We have some sort of sugary powder that they sprinkle on top of creeps. But when you use this sugar they have here it makes way to sweet of a frosting for the cakes. I have used his in the past with a ton of butter, some vanilla and milk to make a cream topping for the banana cakes. But I find this way to sweet for my taste. Can anyone help me figure out a good frosting for my cake that would be simple for me to make here. Remember we only have some sort of powered sweet stuff here on the islands. Looking forward to your ideas on how I can make a fantastic topping for my cakes. Image source - pixabay.com

I think some people use cream cheese.

This sounds wonderful but unfortunately here there is no Philly in our stores.when my grand daughter comes she goes crazy for bagels and Philly and they are no where to find here on our islands. Maybe I can get one of the really nice pieces of soft cheese and try to cream this. Great idea.

You can boil up some cocoa and sugar as you would make fudge and and before it gets to the hard fudge stage, beat and pour over your cake, Just follow a regular fudge recipe.

The cake looks really good like it is just simple frosting on it.

I think that is an excellent idea. I have a few friends who like to eat it just like it is with no frosting on it at all. I think a butter cream will be excellent for a few of them it will add flavor and bring out the banana taste.

@amnabas. Too easy to make frosting but also a bad habit to form.

Thank you so much for trying. I know of several ways but each of the ways I know I can't find all I need here to do them. Frustrating.

@sallypup No not really - I cook them and frost them up and others eat them up. Normally anything with milk I can't eat and this recipe called for milk.

Simple whipped cream would be tasty. One Easter I put some cocoa powder and a bit of sugar into whipped cream. A friend of ours could not keep out of it!

This sound delicious. But here the whipped cream would need a nice cold place. it's very hot and humid today and not sure how long the whipped cream would last. I will try it on a few of the cakes I'm making and see how long it lasts.

@poehere I'm not used to thinking about heat like that. Jelly or jam on top? Oh I know: melt some chocolate chips on top!!

@sallypup Is a banana cake good with chocolate chips? I always thought it had to have some sort of butter or cream frosting like this. Never fried it before with chocolate chips.

It HAS to be a white frosting. Keep it simple. Let the banana flavor come through!

@poehere I admit that a hint of coconut sounded tempting.

@TheHorse Have you ever eaten a banana with fresh coconut? It is delicious. After we shred the coconut we take hand fulls of fresh coconut meat and eat it with bananas. I love it. give it a try some time sure you'll love it too.

That's what I was thinking but at the same time wanted something very different. I know chocolate and banana are great, here we eat bananas with fresh coconut, and I know many people love bananas and peanut butter. But maybe a simple butter topping will be best on this one.

By way of description, the cake is already in my mouth yumm. But why do you want to frost it, keep it simple as it is...but can't you powder the sugar yourself? You do use the sugar crystals isn't it to sweeten your tea or coffee? Cant you just powder that?
