My Heart Is Saddened

I just heard from a very dear friend of mine that her daughter may need a liver transplant. Her daughter is only 19 years old and hasn't had any kind of problem until about 6 months ago. She was having stomach pain and had her gallbladder removed. After healing from the surgery she still continued to have pain and the doctors did more tests and biopsies. Her doctors sent off the biopsy to Vanderbilt and my friend got the news yesterday. Her daughter has Small Duct Pimary Sclerosing Cholangitis with extensive bile ductuar injury. It is stage 3 liver disease. My friend will see the doctor next Wednesday so I pray that it is not as bad as what she has found out by researching. You know how terrifying things can seem when you google it. She hasn't told her daughter yet as she is still trying to come to grips with it herself. Her and her husband will be telling their daughter tonight. My heart goes out to my friend, her husband and her daughter during this time. It makes me wish there was something I could do to ease their pain and suffering. All I know to do is to be there for her.

What a very sad news, it makes my heart bleed even if I don't personally know them. It is just so hard to have a sick family member especially if the sickness is something as serious as that. I can only but pray for her daughter. May God give them the strength and the provision to carry through.

That's so surprising to hear of something so serious in such a young person. I certainly hope that they are able to get her the treatment to make her well again, even if that is a transplant.

I agree, it is very surprising. Especially since she is already stage 3 and never knew anything was wrong.

@arthurchappell With the liver, they don't always have to have the whole liver as it regenerates. I am praying that if she does need a transplant, someone in her family is a match and can donate.

I pray that is what will happen. I hope she isn't on the donor list long but we know how long that can be sometimes.

I have had 2 friends lose their children and it is so hard to comprehend what a parent goes through--hopefully they will be able to do something. Googling any illness will make a person sicker--I know this from just recently doing it!!

You are right about the googling. I am hoping that what she read is the extreme and that there will something else they can do.

I think that's why we were all so surprised, that it seems to have come up rather quickly. She might have had this for a while and it just went undetected until she had her gallbladder out.

Thank you so much for the prayers. I don't even know if they give transplants to someone who is stage 3. I don't know if they have to wait for her to get to stage 4.
