We have few coconut trees in our ancestral home so whenever I visit the place, I always ask my brother to pick for me some young coconut fruits. Young Coconut contains more water and much sweeter. Coconut water is very nutritious, it is rich in Electrolytes such as Magnesium, Potassium, Sodium, Calcium and Phosphorous. It also contains Lauric acid, Chloride, and Iron. Do you know that the potassium in Coconut Water is almost twice the amount found in banana? What potassium rich food do you enjoy eating?

We do not have coconuts palms here, but I loved to have a fresh coconut when I visited the Caribbeans. I buy bottled coconut water.

So coconut does not grow in your place. We have lots of coconut palms here. We put hole, insert straw and drink the juice straight from the newly picked fruit.

@LadyDuck Yes you are right, this is why it grows very well in my country where there is a lot of sunshine.

As a child growing up we had coconut trees all around and I love the water, the jelly and everything about it. Now the only time I enjoy them is when I go on a tropical vacation.

you're right. in young coconuts, the flesh is soft and jelly like. when it matures, it's white and thick and has to be grated. grated coconut has so many uses.

I drink the canned coconut water. I hardly have the chance to drink coconut water direct from the coconut. If I buy the coconuts that the sellers are selling, I have to pay much more for it.

Oh I see! But it surely taste better and more nutritious because coconut water should be taken immediately after opening otherwise it loses most of its nutrients.

We too have coconut trees but we do not get coconut pluckers whenever we want them. I depend on bananas for potassium.

I used to believe also that banana has the richest potassium content until I read that potato has more and then later I learned coconut water has even more.

I love coconuts, but am not fond of the milk, it seems a bit sickly to me.

No not the milk, coconut milk is different from the coconut water. Coconut milk is used in cooking either dish or dessert., the coconut water is clear and we drink it as is.

Coconuts don't grow in in cold places so the next best option is banana or potato.

@salonga We do import them but I don't know what is done to them to get here. I do see them sometimes and do eat them on occasion. I'm sure they are not so fresh.

@SIMPLYD my friend, we are very much alike then. A party without buko salad and macaroni salad is incomplete for me so whenever I host a party, I make sure I prepare them.

According to my research, a banana contains about 422 mg of potassium which is 13% of the daily-recommended amount of potassium so it is still a good source.

My husband made a great capture of that falling coconut fruit! Young coconut juice is truly the best. It is just so hard to reach the fruits for they grow so tall so when no one is around to climb the tree we just buy from the market.

@salonga In Thailand they train monkeys to collect the coconuts. I guess all Asian countries could do well to put monkeys to good use.

@salonga It was when I was young and my parents used the fresh coconut in some kind of recipe. I'm not sure what they did with the water.

While in Mexico a worker opened a coconut so we could drink the water. There was not much taste but it had been laying on the ground, probably not fresh.

If it has been on the ground then I supposed it has grown too mature. The coconut must be newly picked and not mature to enjoy its sweet water.
