My House is Too Old

I got a notice my Homeowners Insurance had canceled - no longer in business, and I needed to get new insurance.
I called my auto insurance, which also does Homeowners, and he came out this morning and took a look at the house. He can't write a policy because the house is too old.
The house was originally built in 1898, and yes, it looks like it too. There is a lot that needs to be done with the house.
My only other option is to let the mortgage company get the insurance.

I've never heard of that before. Are there no other companies in your area you can check with? If there is an historical society, they may know of companies that specialize in older homes.

@just4him Might it also be because the mortgage is worth more than the house is worth? I can see where that might poste a problem for some insurance companies.

@just4him I don't blame you have to do something.

I will need to let the mortgage company select the insurance company. I have no other choice at the moment.

Mine was a little older than that, but State Farm carried the insurance for years. Of course that was a different part of the country. I sure feel for you.

The house needs so much work and a new roof, they don't want to insure it.
