Do you ever have to wake up before dawn?

I'm sitting here sipping my first cup of coffee, waiting for the sun to come up. During the late Fall and early Winter months, I have to wake up before dawn to teach my 8 AM class. Fortunately, it only meets two times a week. On other days of the week, I don't have to wake up quite so early. We used to wake up before dawn on Summer days to stack hay in Montana, so we'd get most of our work done before the day got too hot. I still feel a bit like a ranch hand on these early days. Do you ever have to wake up before dawn? I'll attach a picture of a sunrise I watched last Winter, taken from my desk through the screen on my window.

Is there a certain time for prayer? Or is that up to the individual?

The sun has never been up before me! I am up and ready to go usually 5:30 or so.

Yes. I wake up before dawn every day. I got used to it. I like it when I have the time to myself, either doing some chores or just spending time online.

Evenings are when I spend time doing whatever I want. Right now, I'm doing some work on some 1972 Acoustic Research vintage loudspeakers I'm restoring.

@TheHorse The air is completely different and also the morning sounds are different. The first to sing here are the blackbirds, they start when the sky is still completely dark.

I actually find mornings quite beautiful. It's so quiet, and the air is different from evening air.

I don't wake up before dawn because I don't got to bed until about 2am. My last 8 years of my working life, before I retired, I worked from 4am to 1 pm, Monday through Friday. I lived an hour from work so I got up at 2am to leave the house at 3am. I actually loved it after I adjusted as the morning crew was so much fun and we would talk about so many different things. The bad thing was in the summer when I went to bed at 7pm, I was wide awake and the kids were playing outside and it was very bright. The winters were ok. Now I am making up for it. My husband is an early bird and is up about 6am and I get up between 9 and 10. He usually goes to bed about 8 pm to watch any sports that are on and that is when I watch all the tv shows I record and then get on here for hours.

@TheHorse I did hate it especially when I could hear all the kids outside playing. I got use to it but I never liked it.

@TheHorse Most mornings I am up before the sun comes up and just sit and savor most of the peace and quiet here so can enjoy the morning before most get up.

@TheHorse It is very rare that I have it here so it means so much more when we are the only ones here or there is quiet.

My life haschanged a lot these last years. I never liked to get up early, but first I had to study and then to teach at early hours. For some time I helped my husband and stayed up at the computer (until around 3 AM) Then I would open my eyes at 10 or 11 AM. Now I live alone and stay late and get up late.

That sounds like a lot of changes! My days actually vary a lot, but my pattern has not over the past few years. Tomorrow AM, I can actually sleep in.

Yes, pretty much every day I do. I don't have to, but my body has been trained to get up at an earlier time. I figure, I'd just be laying in bed, staring at the ceiling, and not really getting any sleep or doing anything productive. So why not get out of bed. Granted, it's harder to justify rising out of bed, when the weather gets cold, the day gets shorter, and dreary, but eventually I man up and just do it.

I wake up most days before dawn. Not that I have to, it just happened like that. I don't mind it much because I can get online with my coffee and get some things done. I totally enjoy that. The only downside to this is that I wind up getting tired by the afternoon. I wind up napping sometimes. And that I am not happy about.

@TheHorse I don't like taking naps. They ruin my entire day. it basically gets in the way. i know that sometimes I eat something I am not supposed to and that puts me down. I used to try and fight that tired feeling. It is harder to do that these days.

@inertia4 My daily schedule doesn't permit naps right now. But there are times I'm pretty pooped by late afternoon!

Unfortunately I have to get up before dawn much of the year. 5:30 comes early and dawn seems to like to sleep in starting in fall and lasting through spring.

@TheHorse It will be over here too. We will have more morning light for a while, but then our days will be pretty short. There will be many days, starting soon, where it will be dark before we even have supper.

That is such a beautiful sunrise! They aren't very pretty out here as the sun has to come up over mountains first. I used to go for walks before sunrise because it often gets too hot out here to walk/jog during the summer.
