I just got a message on facebook saying this ladies friend wanted to get rid of her guinea pigs. They are 8 and 5 years old. Guinea pigs usually only live 4-8 years usually 6 is the average age to be honest. I did have one die at 9 this past year. I couldn't imagine just giving them away like we had them this long lets just get rid of them so we don't have to deal with it. I will proabbly bring them home and take care of them. The other girl just texted me and said they are very sick and ill looking. So I assume thats why they are giving them away, they don't want to see them die which is pathetic if you ask me. I am heading up shortly to go get them.

That's very nice of you to take care of the guinea pigs. I was planning to get one for my son as a pet but was afraid that nobody will take care of it when I am at work and he is at school. So I have put off that idea for now. Let me know how they are doing.

The one ended up dying but the other one seems to be rather happy now. It's a lot of work, and many don't consider them until they get them. But it's good you are considering that as well.

@ricki_911 Yeah, I went to look for one just now as a pet for my son but couldn't find the one that I was looking for. All they have are the ones with a "bad hair day" look (like the one in the picture) which I don't quite like. Well, maybe it's not the right time for me to have one yet. Do they eat a lot and is it wise to let them run around the apartment freely? I don't very much like to cage animals but precaution would always be better.

@ricki_911 So I need to get two then. But I can't afford to let them have babies cause my hands would be too full then. I know they don't give birth to only one or two babies. And it's a sad thing to take away their babies and give to others. Thanks for the advice you shared.
