While in Europe - Zurich to be exact - we found these strange looking peaches: Donut looking but because when in Zurich do as the Swiss do, we bought a few and enjoyed them. I did not know then that they were from Spain but did recognize that the grapes were imported from South Africa.
This was over a year ago and only last week when i went to my local greengrocer (SPAR) I found them on the shelves imported from SPAIN.
They cost $4 for six . . . . pricey but then I think we paid almost the same in Zurich, Switzerland.
I am so delighted that I can show my friends the donut peaches we described, and they found difficult to believe!
"Saturn peaches, also known as Donut (Doughnut) peaches, are a variety of peach with white flesh and a flattish, round shape."
Have you had any odd looking fruit lately? - I tried to upload the photo but it keeps giving me TIMEOUT - will try later

I have eaten peaches but not the kind you have described. I had to search and found an image which I am uploading here.
We get the ordinary peaches here in India but I had heard a lot about peaches in Italy. When I visited that country I did go to a mall and picked up some but was disappointed as they were sour.

The grocery store down the street has started carrying rambutans. When they first began stocking them they were $2/pound, but since then the price has dropped down to $0.50/pound. They're bizarre things--the outside is covered with soft 'spines' while the inside is a clear fruit with an almond-shaped seed in the middle.
Of course my kids love them, so I have to buy them fairly regularly now.
I haven't seen the Saturn peaches in a while, but they are carried in several of the local stores. They tend to run about $3.99-$4.99 a pound, from what I remember. I rarely buy them because of that.

They are popular now, but they are part of the very ancient fruits in Italy. We call them "pesche della vigna" (peaches of vineyards). Those were small threes that were always planted in the vineyards because, at harvesting times, the peasants picked up the peaches to relief their thirst. We also call them vineyards peaches here in the south of Switzerland, around $ 3.00 for 6 at Aldi. Now the season is over.

My landlord brought me a bag of loquats. Never had them but really liked them. I never saw them in stores and raved so much, that they brought me a tree to plant. I would love to try an "out of this world" peach.

I have never heard of them before but I bet they are delicious. I do miss peaches because we don't get any here on the islands. I wish they would import some for us here

do they taste.

That's because this fruit isn't indigenous here .
