Over the Hill

Over the hill, a phrase we use saying we are old, past our prime and more than halfway to the end of life, going forward with gravity. I have begun walking to help me feel more healthy, possibly younger, at least not older, but to walk at my house means literally I have to go over the hill. Almost any way that I go. I am at the top of a gentle hill. I go down then back up and over the hill. I know that it is actually good for me. Walking on and over hills uses different muscles in your legs and also works your most important muscle, your heart. So this is my fourth day of taking a morning walk. Come join me in going over the hill.

You are good to be able to do this walk on the hill. I can't do it anymore because of pulmonary hypertension. I can walk on a flat surface and I do.

I would be out of luck around here. I would have to buy a treadmill. I am sorry you have this health problem.

It sounds quite nice, and could be a pleasant little walk.

There are lots of trees and if I walk the right direction there are parks with benches where I can rest if tired.

@GardenGerty I do like the sound of that. Seems like it would be quite serene, and almost a sanctuary.

I understand that is similar to weight training only with resistance instead.

I think I'll wait until nicer weather hits before I do any kind of walking.

@GardenGerty I am hoping that when I weight a little less, my knees and feet will hurt less and I will want to walk some. It happened when I shed some pounds before I went to Aruba.

In the long run (or walk) your walking on gentle hills is better for you, just think of it as twice the walk!

Keep going I love walking. A lot of people think I am crazy to do so much walking and when they just go up the street to the store they have to take their car. I have a great idea. You just reminded me of the song I heard a lot when I was a child. Over the hills and through the woods. Sound like this is a fun adventure to take each day.

With this being such a small town I would be ashamed to drive everywhere.

@GardenGerty I can see this one. On the islands it's small be people still want to drive everywhere even next door to the store. Keep walking it is good for you and the fresh air is always welcomed .

I really need to start walking. I feel like I have been over the hill for a very long time and I'm not even 40 yet.

Love it. When we lived in Wellington we were the same and it always meant having to go back up a hill to get home. It was good for me. I live in a flats city now and find even small hills challenging after ten years of flat.

I too live on the brow of a hill, so whichever way I go, I have to return over the hill...no getting away from the phrase... that Peggy Lee song always springs to mind...The Folks Who Live On The Hill.

Enjoy going over the hill. It doesn't take much of a hill to get me puffing.
