An abundance of pears!

At the bottom of our garden we have a mini orchard which includes a pear tree. The pear blossom is beautiful in spring but the crop of pears can be quite variable; last year we didn’t get all that many. This year though conditions must have been just right because we have a bumper crop! Of course they tend to all be ready at about the same time so then we have to decide what to do with them all!
The windfalls have been made into juice which is nice and something we don’t normally get. It’s also a race to get to them before Pup, who loves them and makes it his mission to gallop down the garden every morning and see what he can find under the tree! For the rest, we are eating quite a lot just as they are (I do like a sliced pear with cheese and crackers) and then others have been poached in a spiced syrup, I like them with ginger or cardamom and served with ice-cream. I’ve frozen portions of them for an easy dessert throughout the coming months.
What’s your favourite way to eat pears?

My favourite way to eat pears is to not eat them! I don't like pears. I wish I did though. And cherries. My Mumsy had a bumper harvest of cherries this year and they look divine, but I don't like them. When she makes a crumble or something, I'll just gaze in awe at it. :)

I like a fresh pear, juicy and sweet. I ate a lot of canned pears as a child. My mother would put a half-pear on a bed of cottage cheese and top it with grated cheddar. Yum!

@Fleura I find apples are the same, good with cheese.

I absolutely love pears but cannot stand apples. I would love to be your neighbour I would certainly help you out. It seems that they crop well every other year. I would do what you do make different things, freeze some, give some away and enjoy them while they last! Looks like you have a brilliant crop there this year! ENJOY!
