In the aftermath of 9/11 Golden Corral restaurants began offering free meals to veterans on the Monday closest to Veterans Day. Since that the list of restaurants has snowballed to over SIXTY restaurant chains throughout the U.S. offering free meals, appetizers, or entrees to veterans in honor of Veterans Day.
So, from the bottom of this veteran's empty stomach, THANK YOU to Applebee's, Olive Garden, Texas Roadhouse, O'Charley's, Fuddrucker's, Cheeseburger In Paradise, Ponderosa Steakhouse, Cattleman Steakhouse, Longhorn Steakhouse, Chili's, Denny's, Max & Erma's, and all of the other restaurant chains (national or regional) who are offering free food to veterans in honor of Veterans Day!
Thanks especially to Golden Corral, the restaurant that started it all!

What @sherryeb said. They're a chain of build-your-own burger restaurants throughout the US. I ate at one in Chicago a few years ago and enjoyed it. Always got that place's name confused with the Doonesbury character Jimmy Thudpucker.

Golden Corral is my husbands favorite place to go for a Veteran's Day meal. Folks in the restaurant tend to socialize with one another some on that day, as so many veterans in one building together with their past service to this country in common. It is one of our families favorite places to eat anyways. Good buffet and menu.
