Have you ever come across some unusual things in our usual lives? Things you thought were pretty cut 'n' dry, turns out to be quite unusual. Here's an example, I was chatting with @Topffer on flight routes around the world. He shared a flight tracker tool that tracks all flight paths. All appears to be in order, until I realised there's absolutely no flight crossing the centre & the west coasts of Ireland (from Athlone to Galway). Topffer pointed out that flights must be avoiding this area for a reason. This is so unusual! There's no airforce around this area (Air Corps is mainly based in Co Dublin). Galway itself had an airport... wait! Didn't it get shut down a couple of years ago?! WoW.. I feel there's some unusual stuff going down here. There was I thinking the west coast is pretty laid back 'n' predictable.. well maybe not.. Maybe the pixies are real after all. So what's the most unusual thing you've come across?
After the crash of the MH17 flight shot by a missile over Ukraine, a friend started an interesting discussion where she blamed among others the FAA and IATA to...

Wow that is amazing and maybe you'll never know why you can't fly over there again. Wait I know maybe it is hanger 51 that was moved out of the desert and is now there. Joking I am only kidding on this one. Yes it is strange.

Yep! As compared to rest of the world.. there are flights paths across all countries at all times. Except Ukraine and West Coast of Ireland is eerily empty..

@poehere As it turns out, the airport that controls the air-space of this area (Shannon airport) is actually being used as a transit point for US military & the CIA.. Maybe that's why no one is flying through this area..

A bridge here in Manchester or rather in neighbouring Salford changed military history. Soldiers marching in step on it in Napoleonic times caused it to break, and some were killed when they were sent into the river Irwell. Ever since, soldiers break rank and marching step on small bridges.

This flight radar is fascinating, isn't it ? The air traffic over this part of Ireland and the Atlantic is regulated by Shannon air control. And you know what ? You do not need a scanner to listen to it, you can also hear it with your browser. I give you the link.

And finally I found two courageous planes. They are probably flying in group to have more chances to survive.

@topffer That's pretty freaky, there are two airports near by Shannon & Knock. Both are extremely well out of the way from their perspective cities! Shannon airport actually has flights directly to USA and is apparently used by US military and CIA as a transit point between mid-eastern areas... OMG.. madness on our own door steps.

@Drosophila I listened to Shannon Control last night. They control the traffic over all Ireland, including the western part. You should ask them why they don't allow planes to fly in some areas.
