Walking down memory lane - A poem

Walking down memory lane, I took the street called past, Standing at the cross roads , Where life met confusion last. I perceive wholesome clarity now, Where muddle once reigned, I see wisdom play, When ignorance I feigned. I watch sorrows past, Pass me by in haste, Laughter alone sojourns, Hurts completely erased. I reach my street, Which once was packed With the good, bad and not so rare Now with happiness alone stacked. Scenes in rosy tints, Welcome me as I come, Peals of laughter and merry songs, Joyfully I hum! Memories are strange things, Where past, present and future seamlessly blend, Where one begins and another ends, To discern I don’t pretend. Poem by sofs How do your memories take you?

What a beautiful poem! I love to walk down the memory lane even if there there were some thorns all along.

@salonga Sweetie I can say this to you - The thorns along the way become flowers when we exercise our faith .. .. our sorrows will turn into joy when we give them all to Him.

@sofssu you are right. God did not promise that we will walk in flower-strewn pathways. But He promised He will never leave us nor forsake us.

@salonga When we look back we can only see the blessings and his hand of protection even though we walked the thorny paths.

Did you say here that the street where you used to live is now filled with happiness? You also mentioned something about the past. Do you miss the past, Sophie?

@Cristi_Ichim The lane in my memory is filled with happy thoughts. .. No, I do not miss the past.. I miss people.. my mom, my dad, two of my cousins, two of my friends lost to cancer ..the ones I loved the most.

Very nicely written. My memories could take me in varies directions, depending on the memory. Some could be joyful, while others could be sorrow.

@sofssu Well, I am glad to hear you have that capability. I wish I could say the same, but I can't. Thanks. I have a lot of catching up to do. Hopefully I can do that tomorrow.

Clap, clap, clap! Nice poem Sofs. I love to remember the past specially the things that makes me cry, that hurts me. On those experiences, this is what I am now. More okay. More knowledgeable. More patient in understanding things.

This is a beautiful poem - well done. And you are right - we do tend to look at our past with rose-coloured spectacles.

It is very true that we dwell in the happy memories and the bad ones do not remain with us for long. The past is always better in memory than it was in the living of it. Our past is part of us, and so blends into our present and future. You've captured all that very well.

wow, powerful - I love how it looks at the fleeting often dream-like nature of memory itself rather than trying to focus on specific memories
