opera or on stage performance of anything. So I see where The Phantom of the Opera is the longest running show on Broadway. It actually its 10,000th performance in February 2012. It has been the most financially successful and highest grossing entertainment event of all time. It had its debut on Broadway January,26, 1988 and has been seen in 145 cities in 27 countries. Over 130 million people have seen it. It continues to play in New York and London. Two other favorites had long runs but not really as long as The Phantom. Cats with 7485 and The Lion King with 7454. I always wanted to see the Cats.

@celticeagle They are not always performed in the original text. I saw Opera North performing Madama Butterfly in the original Italian and a few weeks later saw the same company at the same venue performing La Boheme in English.
An I depth knowledge is not required because I know the story so well that I can follow it regardless. I could watch a performance of several Puccini operas in any language whatsoever and still be constantly aware of what was happening and what was being said.

I would love to see Cats! Wicked is coming to Charlotte, NC in January. I would love to see that! I'm a big Wizard of Oz fan!

Yeah, I would have loved to have seen one or both of the others that I mentioned.

@celticeagle I saw Cats about 20 years ago and it was absolutely fantastic. A friend worked for a company with 'corporate' seats in a really good position. I loved everything about it except the weird woman in the seat next to me who kept joining in every time they sang 'Memories'. I wanted to have a cat fight with her.

@boiboing ...Some people just don't get it. Sounds like it would have been a real experience. I saw it on PBS but that is just not the same.

Oh, I love the stage! Even performed on some back in the day. My dad used to get season tickets for summer stock and saw some great plays. I met Vincent Price after one of them. He played Fagin in Oliver. He was great! I saw Leslie Ann Warren play Gigi, that was a great show, too. I saw Jesus Christ Superstar and Cabaret as an adult, among countless others!

@celticeagle If I lived in Boise, I'd be dragging you out of the house to see a play!

I have no desire to see Les Miserable. No Phantom really. Cat and The Lion King would be fun however.
