My dream

Solitaire my dream home

I always wanted to design my own home but that would have been impossible if we continued to live in the city as land prices there as is known are prohibitive. My husband gave me a surprise one day by buying a plot of land close to our native place and from then on I felt that my dream would be fulfilled. I started designing, tearing paper after paper, thinking about it, looking at home decor books........... It all fitted perfectly as I was getting bored with my 9 to 5 job which I gave up starting my own landscaped garden designing business which again I gave up just to have time to construct my dream home. I had to travel many times in that year - a year close to my husband's retirement. With the help of an engineer our dream home -SOLITAIRE- came into existence. We sold our flat in the city and shifted here. SOLITAIRE keeps me merrily on my toes with the garden also designed by me.

That's wonderful! Interesting name for a house too. Where did you get the idea to name it Solitaire?

It took us a while to decide on that name although some call it glass house specially the taxi drivers when they have to bring visitors to our home who have not visited us before. Solitaire has 31 louvre glass windows But I really do not like it when they do that.

@allknowing i looked up images of louvre glass windows and i think we call them jalousies here. wouldn't 31 windows make the house pretty hot inside?

@hereandthere No it does not. Cross ventilation is what our windows do. These windows have those glass blades that can be opened.

It is quite spacious. We have 3 bedrooms, a store, a kitchen and dining and living area. The terrace has a garden too.

We also moved to the countryside because we wanted an individual house with a garden. I have designed our garden and I am so glad we live here.

You are very lucky. Not many get to live in their dream home. I'm very happy where I live, but I wouldn't say it is my dream home.

That must be so satisfying to have been able to design your own home. How long have you been living there now?

How lovely! Is that it in the photo? I have also liked the idea of designing my own home, I used to plan houses as a child!
