POP! Goes the button on my jeans...

I wear a pair of brown jeans to work. While it is not technically dress code, I've also never been told NOT to wear them. I suppose
since people don't really see me, my work doesn't care. It also might be because the dark blue shirt and color of the brown pants fit
nicely together. Either way, they are my favorite pair of work pants. The button that snaps them up decided it was done serving it's
purpose and fell off last night. I was sitting down indian style on the floor blocking up the flour when POP went the button. I had to
go get two paper clips and thread them through the holes, and even that didn't work very well.
I'll have to try to get someone to sew it back on for me, sewing isn't one of my talents. Until then I have twine somewhere
around so I'll just have to be creative and tie my pants shut!
The only problem is the fly of the jeans, which likes to slide down now.
If I can think of it, I'll bring a pair of regular jeans into work with me so I can change if the pants get to be too much to handle.
(On a side note, why is it that we here in America call pants, well pants. In the UK pants are men's underwear if I am not mistaken.
It leads me to think that somewhere along the way we decided to be completely different (Read: Stupid) and thought "Oh I think we
will start calling trousers as pants." Anyway I could rant on about the silliness of this, but I digress. It could even be that the word
pants is a adaptation from another language entirely... )

Thanks for the how-to video. I really should be learning how to do this. This is a somewhat regular occurence for me, well if regular occurrences are like once a year.

Oh ok. Knickers are women's underwear only though, right? Or am I mistaken there as well?

@ScribbledAdNauseum knickers is a rather old fashioned word perhaps more associated with tennis and gym class as in frilly tennis knickers and gym knickers both of which were worn over pants.

I've had this problem numerous times. I can sew a button back on normal pants, but it's not pretty... but ya know when you can't really afford new pants it'll do in a pinch. I've had to fix up a few of hubby's pants over the years. On Friday one of my good work pants decided to have a problem. The clasp that keeps them closed came loose. This isn't really fixable, so basically I'm down a pair of pants, and I only have a few pair to begin with. It's bad timing as right now all my extra cash is going towards shopping for Christmas!

@ScribbledAdNauseum Yeah, same boat with us. It's a major dilemma right now as the past few months I've been putting every spare dime towards the debts, but now I need some extra money for Christmas so will have to cut down on what I'm paying towards the debts to strictly $25 per pay period. It used to be I pay the major bills first and whatever is left goes towards debts... but now I'll need that extra $50-$100 to finish off my Christmas shopping. Once the Christmas shopping is done though I'll be putting a lot more focus on those debts again! Hopefully the shopping will be done pretty soon! I've already made a really good dent in it!

Yes the "button" on ,my pants isn't really a button but one of those metal things they use to secure the pants with. It had to be thrown out and another actual button replacing it. I will go redneck before I have to give up a favorite pair of pants though.
As for shopping for Christmas, yes I definitely can't be going out and buying a new pair of pants. I not only have Christmas to contend with but the added expense of the medical bill I am paying off.

You are right. It should be something everyone knows how to do.

It can be irritating at times, when the button gets displaced from its position. I have a couple of jeans for which i had sew the button.

Irritating and inconvenient. I was having to pull my pants up every few minutes to ensure they wouldn't fall and embarrass me!

Put a safety pin through the top of the zipper and it will keep it from sliding down until you can get the button sewn back on

Thanks for that tip! I didn't have a safety pin last night but I suppose I could have used a rubber band and threaded it through to secure onto the paperclip.

I know, I know! You would think that in a family of needlecrafters I would have learned to sew. I think even my sister can sew on a button, but I never learned. Not even in Home Ec back in school.
