I have several friends who know and love Sierra Leone and have worked in the country. One actually went out on an assignment as a public health professional at the height of the epidemic, another has been in and out on a regular basis throughout the crisis. So whilst much of the world might have forgotten Sierra Leone as soon as it stopped feeling like an issue in their own countries, I've been watching out for what has been happening. My friend and her husband who are working out there at the moment shared this fantastic video on facebook to commemorate the very happy day when it was announced the Sierra Leone is now officially Ebola free. For most of us it's hard to imagine the impact that the disease had on the country but easy to understand the joy expressed in the video. If you want something to put a smile on your face, give it a watch.

Let's hope that this is really over. I know the damage this disease brought to this country, I am glad if they can now smile again.

That is such a good news. I followed pretty close when Ebola hit the countries and remained at its peak for almost a year. It's great news that a country is free from this deadly disease. Thanks for letting us know!

@boiboing yes that's true. I have read the news two months ago that Ebola vaccine have been tried out with success, but the most important steps to stop the spread of Ebola still now is tracking, isolation and monitoring. This epidemic has surely taught a lesson to keep more strict surveillance and maintain constant vigilance regarding such deadly diseases.

That's great. It's true that people seem to forget about this sort of thing when it no longer poses a threat.
