He Knows When

He knows when refers to our cat Sid. In the picture you see him lying there with such expressive eyes. Well he is not just trying to be adorable. Opposite him is his mama. I am lying looking at him and he is trying ever so subtly to get me to let him have some more food. Long ago I realized that no matter how much we fed him our cat knew that he wanted and what he needed. He is the healthiest specimen I have seen in a long time. However if I tell him that he can only have so much food he gets ready with those eyes and he’ll lie there and keep looking at me until finally I give in. I have often not given in but on some occasions I will give him something extra. Sid has two kinds of food that he prefers – dry and the kind that comes in the little foil packets. When mama decides to discipline it means wet food in the morning, a little dry for lunch and a bit at night.

My cat will look at me with eyes like that whenever I sit on the floor and eat at the coffee table, regardless of when she last ate. Clearly whatever I have MUST be better. Even if it is just a glass of water (the same water I put in her bowl).

Our Tiki sits and stares at us. She is perpetually hungry, the furry tub of lard. If we're eating, she's right in our peripheral vision (or directly in front of us) just staring. Her new thing is to come up on the table behind me and stare over my shoulder. Once she sees that the last of the food is gone, she gets down and walks away. She eats mostly dry food, but gets a sampling of wet when I feed our elderly cat.

After our bout with virus last week he has become very vocal because when we were sleeping most of the week I didn't hear him and he batted me once with his paw @wetnosedogs
