Too Hot To Sleep, Bah!

Too hot to sleep. That is what it is, here in Johannesburg. I have been roaming around at night, standing in the garden. My family and I suffer from sinus, so, we are not using an air-conditioner, plus the suburb I live in keeps having power surges, all of a sudden everything will go dark, then flash back on, very bad for electronics and appliances. My friends and I are already threatening to do an honest to goodness rain dance! Standing in my garden after midnight last night, I almost started that supposedly magical chant and dance, only the thought of my neighbours reaction stopped me, I wouldn't want them to think I flipped my lid. And isn't it odd, how on hot nights like we are experiencing at the moment, things you don't want to think of, or things that bug you, come at you? Or maybe I have heat stroke? Ah well, to those behind SA time have a great Wednesday ahead, to those in Wednesday, like me, have a great day, and to those ahead of SA time, have a great Thursday ahead, or uhm, Wednesday night. I think I got all that right, ha ha. I took this photo of how blue the sky is by us at the moment, I think it has a very light blue hue to it from the intense heat. Keep cool out there everyone.

That heat would be too much for me too. I hope you get some rain soon, you've been without for quite a while haven't you? It's a pleasant day in England today, the autumn sun is shining.

Hi, Janet. Thank you. Yes, stage two water restrictions have kicked in, here in Johannesburg, they are asking congregations to pray for rain now. The heat is smothering at the moment @jaboUK . I am glad it is a cool and lovely sunny day by you, send some cool our way. :-)

Ah I hate hot nights - I think it is because I love being wrapped up. Luckily for me it is mid winter so temperatures are dropping to around 5 degrees Celsius.

I used to love summer, but if this is our spring weather, being 38 degrees Celsius at the mo', then I am going to start bawling, just bawling. It was 20 degrees Celsius last night, no air-con. I know it is not all that nice, but that 5 degrees Celsius by you, sounds good right now. :-)

@bluesa Ohhh 20 at night sounds really bad. Maybe an investment into air-conditioning is the way to go? Or a stand alone one might be cheaper?

@djgarner86 , we all suffer from sinus, air-con clogs us up, so, it is only wide open windows, or walking around the garden, considering a raindance... 20 last night was awful.

I remember that claim back in August. But not here in November. You are welcome to come visit the northwest of the good ole U.S. of A. It's in the 50's here right now.

It was too hot to sleep by you in August? Here it was still winter. September our spring was supposed to have started and since then it has been too hot days and too little rain. Yikes, 50 is a little too cool, shall we say, but, 70 or 74, would surely be lovely right now.

That is how it usually is for us too, Val, we used to have 26 25 degree Celsius weather this time of the year, with drizzle and rain, in Johannesburg. Now it is 38 degrees Celsius, and the rain does not want to fall.

@valmnz , our highest summer temps in Johannesburg in December used to be 30 or 32 degrees Celsius, so this weather is a shock for us. Your 16 degrees Celsius for spring sounds blissful right now.

Here are water restrictions now, they cut certain suburbs water for a few hours yesterday. So though I know the cold is ugh, we sure could use some of your rain, care to join me in a raindance? My sister, Mom and Dad are worried I am nuts, walking the garden at night, but the heat is smothering. I send some of that sky your way then. :-)

@HebrewGreekStudies , thank you for thinking I am normal, walking around the garden after midnight on a boiling hot night, should be normal, right :-D? Yeah, a raindance, chanting, maybe some foot stomping. Okay, I'll check the mail! ;-)

It is so funny how this happens, we have had 11 days of rain, it finally stopped. You really need some, wish I could pkg it for ya. A workman got stuck in my yard yesterday because it is so muddy.

Eek, that workman could not have been impressed. I am happy to tell you that tonight we got rain, we hope it will last, and not just blow over, but, we got rain, Yay!

That is the most uncomfortable condition to sleep when it is so hot. I remember when we were in the Philippines still . . March and April are the hottest months. Unless your room is airconditioned, you can never have a good sleep. Electric fans are no help either. The air they blow is also hot!

Yes, when it is that smothering heat that we were having and a person cannot use aircon, like I cannot, it is so very difficult to sleep, luckily we have had a few cooler nights, so I try to sleep then, till the next extreme heat hits.

Thank you :-) we still need proper gentle earth soaking rain. If it did not clog me up, I would have an aircon on 24/7 at this time. Luckily tonight is slightly cooler.

I thought the on & off of power supply happens only in the Philippines? Aside from causing our appliances to go crazy, we always end up sleeping in our birth attire! I tell you, I almost performed the rain dance many nights ago too. But, just like you, I was concerned with how the neighbors will react as they see me doing those one-legged steps!

Ha ha, I think your neighbours would be as surprised as mine @KnehKnah :-D . No, we also have a lot of power surges and sometimes power cuts. I do not sleep in my birth attire, I am too used to pajamas, so I just walk around the garden or sit in it trying to cool down. :-)
