Pup is on holiday!

Things are a bit quiet this week as Pup has gone on holiday. At short notice he was invited to go for a ‘kennel break’ at the charity kennels as a companion for another dog whose scheduled kennel-mate had to drop out. So I dropped him off after his usual morning walk on Monday morning and my partner will pick him up on Friday afternoon. He was so over-excited when I took him there that I’m sure he’ll be having a marvellous time; he practically broke the bones in my hand from leaping around and pulling on the lead so much when we arrived. He did at least give me a brief backward glance as the kennel worker led him away but that was all. So the house is a bit quiet at the moment with everybody out but me. It does have certain advantages though: On Monday I picked up the dog poo in the garden and my partner had a good attempt at vacuuming up the dog hair and we won’t have to do either of those unpleasant tasks again at least until Saturday. I can go into the kitchen for a late-night glass of water without feeling guilty that I’m not there to play with Pup or give him any more treats. And I can do the garden – something that has been badly neglected this year because gardening is not as compatible with having a dog as I hoped it would be. So now the weather is mild and dry and I’ve finished my most urgent work I’m going to rush out there and try to make a bit of progress on the vegetable garden while I’ve got the chance!
