Day 43 – Footsteps 2 Kings 21:19-26 People have a tendency to follow people they idolize. They mimic hair, style of dress, how they talk, how they walk, everything they do is a representation of that person. Amon was the next king of Judah. He followed in the footsteps of his father, so much so that his servants conspired against him and killed him when he had been on the throne two years. What you do does have an affect on the people around you. You will either put them off, or make followers of them. As Christians we are advised to follow in the footsteps of Jesus, to mimic His ways and actions. When we do we will attract the right kind of people. Ephesians 5:1 Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children; 2 And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet smelling savor. (KJV) God also looks on all those who follow Him with favor. Psalm 37:23 The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD: and he delights in his way. (KJV) When we follow the ways of the world, we attract unsavory characters to us. When we walk in the footsteps of Jesus, we attract those who are likeminded and want a better way of life for themselves. Do not be as Amon who followed in the footsteps of his father and did evil in the sight of the Lord, but follow in the footsteps of Jesus and you will receive favor and blessing on your life. Let’s pray: Father, help me to order my steps in Your Word so that I do not attract unsavory people but those who seek You and want to walk in Your ways. In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen. They should have made it very clear that following in the footsteps of Jesus does not mean wearing a crown of thorns and carrying a heavy cross walking the streets while being slashed and then finally nailed on to the crossed. This is what some followers of Jesus do during Easter in some parts of the Philippines..

@epiffanie, may I with due respect make some clarification because what you just said is actually happening in our country. Well, the truth is those who do this are not real followers of Jesus but followers of their false religion, wrong tradition and misconception. If you will actually study their personal lives, they are actually legalists who believe they can save themselves by their own sacrifices and doing ceremonials. While they profess they know Christ, in works they deny Him. True followers of Christ know the Bible and the Bible does not in anyway encourage such kind of foolishness. As Jesus said on the cross "It is finished." He finished everything in the cross so any sacrifice done by ordinary men is useless. So those blind followers of wrong tradition are not really followers of Christ. How could they be followers of Christ when they don't even know the exact Word of Christ.

I have heard and seen those stories and just wondered at them - sadly. Walking in the footsteps of Jesus is following His teachings and doing unto others as you would have them do unto you.

Who our friends are is an illustration of who our leader is. That is a reason to be careful even what you do online.

I agree. I look at a lot of things before I do any following, and sometimes I even unfollow those I thought were good to follow. I hope that made sense

Whenever we make idols of people to follow and emulate, we will be disappointed. None of them can live up to our expectations and none of them are going to lead us anywhere we should go.

As Christians our model should be Christ so that we will be more like Him until the time He comes back again.

So true and I do my best, but I know I fall short every day.

Sometimes following someone can lead to being jealous of them. following a good example can be good.
