Peace or Freedom?

I've been a member of ChatAbout for a while now, but have never spent much time there except for watching videos. But I always do the daily path and daily poll. Some days the poll questions are really interesting, some days not so much. Today's question got me thinking though. They asked whether peace or freedom is more important. After giving it a little thought, I chose peace because without it I'm not sure that the human race will survive. On the other hand, I'm not sure that peace is possible without freedom. What do you think?

We will never have peace, this never happened since the world has been created, let us at least freedom.

@LadyDuck Sadly you're probably right about that. A lot of people do have freedom, but unfortunately there are some places where that's never likely to happen either.

The more freedom people have to defend themselves and protect the weak, the more peace there will be. Freedom, hands down.

@Rohvannyn I wish peace was possible, but I'm not sure people will ever stop fighting.

@Rohvannyn I wish I could believe that but right now we seem to be headed in the opposite direction.

@Gina145 The mythical perfect peace will never happen, true, however there might be an end to wars of aggression and a sharp decline in street violence if certain other things were made true - such as a would be criminal being absolutely certain that there were no soft, unarmed targets to prey upon. It wouldn't go away entirely but violence would ultimately drop.

I'd choose peace, though I like freedom as well. I believe when I have found the inner peace, I will feel free.

Freedom. Hands down. There will never be peace. There may be armed, cold war type peacetimes, but there will never be peace throughout the world. You can't change human nature, and there will always be people who want power more than peace. But without freedom, what is the meaning of a peaceful life? What good is it to be a contented prisoner? Freedom is necessary to throw off those who would conquer and subjugate. Every peace in history has been hard won by people dedicated to freedom.

@Rollo1 I don't think it's really possible to be a contented prisoner, so you're right about that. But we really need peace too because without it, we're bound to destroy the world eventually.

Everybody knows what peace is, but freedonm needs to be defined in my opinion. Absolute freedom isn't possible if you live together with other people. There must be laws and regulations to organise a community or country.

@MALUSE I didn't think of it that way, but it makes a lot of sense. Laws and regulations are a necessity because far too many people won't do the right thing unless they're forced to do so.

It's hard to make this world peaceful, bad people are everywhere. I would choose freedom but not absolute freedom like you not following the law.
