It Was My Shoes!

Down here in Florida, we wear a lot of thong shoes, all year round. I have a pair, put out by Crocs, which I have worn for a couple of years. Very comfy. About a month ago, I noticed that my left ankle was starting to hurt, and even sometimes my right. So bad it was, sometimes, that I limped. I kept thinking about it, and as I did so, I noticed that my right foot was also starting to swell. Oh, oh. I thought about my Crocs. I thought about how soft they were, and how they didn't support my feet. I thought that my ankles must be tilting this way and that way, every time I took a step. So I wore another pair of sandals with a harder bottom for a few days, and the pain abated. But I don't like these sandals, so I went out and bought another pair of flips (thongs) but they have a harder bottom. I got them on sale, in the men's dept. Not very feminine, but I needed to walk without pain, and who really cares? I now sound like a Clydesdale when I walk, as the shoes are too long for my feet, but the pain is totally gone. My knees are starting to crack, as they are probably trying to get realigned as well. The swelling disappeared in 48 hours. And it wasn't just my feet and ankles. The nerves running all the way to my hips were killing me, every morning when I got up. Since I changed shoes, the pain has all but gone away. When my boat comes in, I will get a better pair of sandals, but for now, I am just grateful to not be in pain. I walked around the mall as I looked for the shoes, and looked at other people's feet. I was amazed at how awful people treat their feet. It can become a lifelong problem if people do not buy the right shoes. Have you had this issue?

@ThankyouLord I was born in Italy and we have possible the best shoes in the world, the drawback is that they are expensive.

I think that Europe has much more common sense when it comes to shoes. They seem to be manufactured at a higher quality, and I love styles that come from foreign makers.

@LadyDuck but because they are well made, italian shoes last a long time so it's worth it

I am constantly amazed at how badly people treat their feet. They'll spend a fortune on make up or hair and abuse their feet.

Mostly women, too. I meet older women with feet so bad they are in constant pain, because all their lives they wore shoes that squeezed their toes in.

@ThankyouLord I may have never been one for fashionable footwear but my feet are great.

As long as it is hat is comfortable with you and doesn't hurt your feet , then who cares as to how fashionable shoes are.

That's how I feel. My comfort comes first now that I am a bit older and don't have to think that I have to dress for others.

I have neuropathy in my feet and it can be pure agony at times. They are very sensitive to touch so I have no choice but to wear my crocs (they aren't sandals). I cringe sometimes when I see what people put on their feet.

@ThankyouLord I'm taking gabapentin for neuropathy and it does help some. I really do love my crocs. I don't wear them out but wear them around the house. Sometimes my feet feel like I am walking on marbles. I also have to wear my crocs with socks too because my feet sweat so much.

I know there are prescription and non-prescription medications for neuropathy. I hope you are using some of them. Crocs certainly do serve a purpose, don't they? I have some of the "clog" styles, too, but can't wear them without socks. In Florida in the summer, that is too hot. I'm glad they bring you some relief. I recommend them to people with foot problems, too.

I've had that issue. In fact, I learned my lesson so I invest on good shoes as much as possible. Crocs is my favorite because it's so comfy and stylish.

It seems that as we get older, shoes that used to be OK aren't now. That is what I am learning, anyway.

I was born with bad feet so I had to wear good shoes all my life. I have tried to wear shoes without support and it just results in pain.
