Respect!

I am sad.
In the wake of the truly horrible events in Paris, and in the light of the virtual close-down of Brussels this morning, people are terrified of further terrorist attacks. Understandably! These attacks by ISIS, and the one in Mali by Al Qaeda, pose a threat to the whole world.
What I am noticing, however, is that this is resulting in a number of incontinent and uninformed attacks upon Islam and Moslems as a whole.
Now, I am sure that, just as there are many different interpretations of Biblical teachings, there are many different interpretations of the Koran. One case in point is that, although the outcome is often the same, ISIS and Al Qaeda are not in agreement. How, then, can normal, law-abiding Muslims suddenly be regarded as rampant terrorists, and why should their deeply held religious convictions be brought into question?
This is not going to be a highly intellectual post. I’d be the first to admit that I’m not qualified to speak in depth on this subject. I’m just asking for us to be respectful of each other’s sincerely held beliefs and, above all, not to endow each other with beliefs that we do not hold!
I’ll just end with the point that no religion is dangerous in itself. It’s the extremist, crackpot element that causes the problems!

this kind of people have no religion because they also kill Muslim people also and some terrorist also killed by Muslim police officer here in India. so they are just do show off against us to make fight between us but we are educated and smart people. we have to respect all person who dont believe in religion but believe in manhood because we all have same blood and color of it is red.

I beg to differ. Certainly I agree to be civil with people however ... to put an end to the terror do think these topics need to be discussed with passion. This is not the united nations forum though.
Not an expert either and do like this post for all it says except on I’m just asking for us to be respectful of each other’s sincerely held beliefs and, above all, not to endow each other with beliefs that we do not hold!. I'm not even sure what that means?

@Vivenda Oh thanks for clearing that one up for me. Okay I get it and yeah that's so true we should say what we believe and think. I will use quotes and then write what I think the author means but it is always my interruption. We can do that right?

I'm not respectful of sincerely held beliefs unless those beliefs are worth respecting. What you say about different interpretations of religious texts is very true. Although it is sometimes easy to see Islam as a dogmatic and inflexible faith, the way it is understood in the hearts of its many followers isn't quite so regimented.

I guess I try to be respectful of the PERSON even if I don't like what they believe. It's difficult, however, to be respectful of someone who is disrespectful of other people without taking the time or effort to understand them. In my opinion, the greatest "sins" are intolerance (both ignorant and otherwise), injustice and a complete disregard of the laws of logic.

You and I think alike. I agree with you on this post. Too many are running scared and allowing fear to take over common sense. Terrorists don't do thing in the name of god, they kill too build themselves up with fear.

No one should be judged on any basis other than his character. We must always be just and fair. I haven't seen any attacks on Muslims in general, but I haven't seen large groups of Muslims denouncing these acts. I have seen individual Muslims here on myLot and elsewhere who are denouncing the terrorism. Muslims in the US, the UK, Europe, etc., could do a little something for their own image, too, however. How about a big march for peace that condemns ISIS in a visible and vocal way?

Agreed, but I think possibly the Press does not sufficiently highlight comments and condemnations from law-abiding Moslem leaders. Also, I wonder whether a march for peace, over here at any rate, would be something of an "own goal", when our police force is at breaking point already!
