It's from the news in 1935. These days we all seem to grumble about working about 37 hours, spread over five days {exceptions exist, obviously}, conveniently forgetting that our grandparents and great-grandparents really did work longer hours and have less free time. Not to mention, the lack of a National Health Service and a benefits system. However, even though I do feel blessed to live in a society where I'm not expected to work a six day week, I do wonder if they actually had it better. It must have been calmer, less stressful, no overloading of information due to constant news and technology. It sounds a little bit like heaven. Or not.
