I never pay attention to the weather, my husband does and lets me know if there is trouble ahead. I think the weatherman goofed yesterday but because we live between two Great Lakes you never know what's going to blow up across one or both of those lakes.
It was a sunny afternoon when I left the house for the YMCA and water aerobics. I spent 15 minutes in the steam room and then went to the pool. The first thing I heard was “its snowing!” Now I was cold again.
Water aerobics is always fast and furious, its amazing how easy it is to do exercises in water because we have no body weight in water. Its my favorite thing about the “Y” but I do floor exercises and some real aerobic classes too.
After the class I showered, dressed and headed out to go home and was met by a winter wonderland. I had on my jeans and a turtleneck and a Sweater!
Burrr, the walk to the car was mushy and short. Once there I realized the brush to sweep off snow was in the garage. Now my hands were cold.
Once in the car I turned on the heat and the short ride home was easy, the roads were clear and the snow had stopped. Within an hour of being home there was no more snow on the driveway or roads, It stuck around on the grass and the plants in the gardens.
I took this photo looking out across the back yard. The plant has a name but I can't remember it, we just call the “Live Forevers”. So easy to grow, you can take a piece and stick it in the ground and it will turn into a beautiful plant, It has a bloom in the fall that I love.
I also love it when the snow sits on its head like a hat.
And yes @Rollo1 I just read your post and thought I needed to tell this story. Thanks for the idea.
Are you cold today? I envy people who live in the south today.

It looks like the snow hit us first as it snowed for us on Saturday. In fact, my daughter invited ninety people to a combination birthday/31-purse and bag party, but only six people showed up. We think the first snow of the season frightened people away. We got between one to two inches that day and some of the snow is still on rooftops even though it got to almost fifty today with the sun shining.
It was still only thirty-two degrees on Monday when we worked for two hours washing windows, and then yesterday it began to warm up a bit. Tomorrow was supposed to be warmer yet, but rain most of the day. I've not looked at the forecast recently, but I look fairly often so I can better plan our outside work.
Once it gets to late October, I tend to wear winter wear whether it's needed or not, just in case. With the sun shining today, it felt quite warm, but I think that was partly anticipation for it was only thirty-five at the time. Once I realized that I zipped up and donned more gear.

@PainsOnSlate I'm hoping against that too, for if that happens not only will the roads be awful, but the roof top we're trying to finish up will be unaccessible also. There are only two large skylights on one side, two bedroom windows on one wall and across the courtyard three small windows over an entryway. Then four windows needing a ladder. Ladder work is difficult when snowing or icing too.

@PainsOnSlate I meant to ask, originally, whether you know the actual name for those plants, or whether you have an image of it in bloom for us to take a gander at?
never mind, I looked up that term and it's a type of sedum. We grow sedum around these parts, although they don't get that tall. It's a type of succulent. I had them once, they are pinkish in the summer turning more burgundy type hues toward late fall. I think the plant starts small in the spring and grows taller each year. I've never seen them as tall as the one in your picture before.
Is the one in this image the way yours looks? I love the colors and decided I'd look for it sometime.

@PainsOnSlate yes ma'am, they'll live here. i figured 'em to be purty drought hardy, but those i'd planted years back failed to prove such 's they perished 'fter a few years 'f such. the rains returned this past spring/summer 'n i planted some more, they drowned, 'long with many'f my other succulents. perhaps when the weather straightens itself out once more??

@crazyhorseladycx Good luck with that, with global warming (that no one but me and a few billions believes is a problem) we will see some changing weather patters in the future. If we were all farmers that wouldn't happen..

Sedum is the plant name. It probably would grow well in your area. Thanks for the reminder, today its warm but I need to put my scraper in the car... I highly dislkie crowds (Black Friday) and traffic (thanksgiving) so we stayed home too.

@PainsOnSlate Go South! It can be chilly here in the Bay Area. As Mark Twain never said, "The coldest Winter I ever spent was Summer in San Francisco."

WE live where the winter is pretty serious, for as much as we can we run away to someplace warm and sandy. California sound like a good place to visit..

I actually only envy you in the winter. I love the three other seasons in the north. A couple of years ago we were in Myrtle Beach in February and were stuck in our timeshare and couldn't go anywhere because your southern states don't know how to get rid of ice and snow.

I don't like the unexpected weather changes like you experienced. I do like each season, and I actually prefer the winter over the summer, heat doesn't do anything for me. I got my winter coat out last weekend and now I won't go without it until next spring, I hate to be caught cold like you were yesterday. The snow looks beautiful in the picture you've posted.
