Queueing for Donuts

I'm a bit embarrassed to admit that until half an hour ago I'd never heard of Krispy Kreme donuts. The first I heard was a discussion about the hundreds of people in my city who are standing in line waiting for South Africa's first Krispy Kreme store to open tomorrow morning. I couldn't understand what all the fuss was about until I saw that they're giving away "vast quantities" of donuts to their first few hundred customers. First in line will get a dozen donuts per week for a year. Sounds good, but that wouldn't be enough to get me to stand in line outside a store right through the night. But I'm curious. Are Krispy Kreme donuts really so special? I guess I'll wait for all the fuss to die down before I pay them a visit so that I can find out for myself. Meanwhile, if Krispy Kreme are in your country I'd love to know what you think.

I haven't heard of them being in England yet, but I'm not sure. I've never tasted any myself.

@jaboUK That surprises me. I would have thought England would have got them before South Africa. We're way behind on most things.

@Gina145 I suppose they'll get here eventually, we usually do follow the Americans.

We have crispy creme in our country but honestly I find nothing really special about their donuts. I enjoy the J.Co donuts more.

@salonga I've never heard of JCo. I'm not convinced I'll think that Krispy Kreme is anything special either. I find a lot of the big international brands really disappointing.

Those Krispy Kreme donuts are very fattening, so make sure that you do not get addicted to them.

Thanks for the warning @marlina . I probably won't get addicted to the though. What I find addictive is chocolate

@crazyhorseladycx Somehow I doubt you're missing anything that special. Of course I may be wrong, but I won't know until I try them. I've no plans to go out of my way to visit Krispy Kreme though, so I'll have to wait until I'm in the area where they've opened.

They are better than most and I speak as someone 'in the trade'. Unfortunately for British tastes, the flavours are far too American. Very sweet and artificial.

@Lucky15 I'm surprised so many people are prepared to stand and queue right through the night. They may be good, but are they good enough to make it worth the trouble?

Krispy Kreme donuts are really good but don't know if they're worth standing in line for
