Training my replacement

United Kingdom

I have only been in my job for 3 months but I am starting a new job on Monday. The person I replaced had been there about 2 years when he left and they were very clear that they didn't want a hand over as they didn't like the way he did things. Now they have brought my replacement in a week before I leave and I have been training her the last two days. It is a bit strange training my replacement but I guess I should be happy that they want me to as they must think I do a decent job, even though I thought they didn't think that. It's going quite well so far, she seems to be picking it up quickly enough so I think she will be fine. She is writing loads of notes as well. It does sort of make me wish I had a hand over though as I keep finding myself saying 'nobody told me that when I started' or ' I had to figure that out myself' I think I would have picked up the job a lot quicker if I had had better training but it doesn't really matter now as I am leaving. Have you ever had to train your replacement ? or been trained by the person you were replacing ? x

yes its very difficult to train who replacement for us because our method and their method is different.i trained almost 20 people in my company who were new, at that time i said something but they not take it seriously because first job so not mature with atmosphere so i done work hard for them and later they caught it well.now they all are good in work and very happy.like we are going on new place we also feel some fear because its new for us and we have to change our self for it little.

@birjudanak well even if they are not thinking like you at first after a while they may realise that you are getting better results and are a good influence. You should be proud that they chose you x

When I was being trained, I took a lot of notes too. And since you'll be at a new job (or different department or company) she won't be able to see you or ask any more questions.

@shellyjaneo Yes, training could be quite difficult especially since I don't have that much of a patience and if she was implying you're doing things wrong would make me mad also!

@infatuatedbby Thanks, I am glad she won't be able to ask anymore questions she was asking a few too many today and implying that I was doing things wrong. Drove me mad. Just one more day to get through tomorrow though x

good that they got you to help with the training when you were fairly new to your job yourself - good luck with your new work as well

I've never had to train anyone or be trained. Other than working in a college bookstore and later managing a college bookstore I was a stay at home mom and then developed a home based business with my art. I love working for myself.

I have worked from home before and absolutely loved it. I had an online business selling Jewellery but gave it up when Vinnie was born as I couldn't keep up and was struggling too much I would like to start something new though and have a few ideas at the moment x

I haven't had to train a replacement. But I once had a job that had high turn over and found myself training staff often. I came to enjoy doing that training.

Where I have left seems to have a high turnover of staff from the short three months I was there, and I know where I am going has also got a high turnover so I may end up doing it again x

I have been a trainer in a job I held previously. We had all three shifts and constant turn over, so I was trained by someone who was leaving eventually and I trained many people including some of the supervisors.

I don't think I would like training all the time. I am not very patient. She is doing really well but I find myself wanting to just get on with the work as I know I can do it quicker. I need to let her practice more on her own x
