Well, it's almost Turkey Day and...

I am feeling a bit nostalgic this year. Not that I am not every year, I mean if you look in the dictionary under 'nostalgic' my picture will be there. That sort of thing. I miss my family this time of year. This time it will just be my daughter and I. My grandson is spending most of his holiday with his bio dad. That is a good thing. His bio dad didn't even pick up the phone and say 'hi' until his son was about eight years old. There were a lot of questions and now I hope a lot of them are being answered. When I was a young child Thanksgiving was always at Grandma's and Grandpa's. The round table in the living room would be enlarged by two big slats. My uncle and his wife would be there. My mom and sometimes one or two others. So that was about ten. All of those people are gone now except myself and two that I am estranged from. My grandmother's specialties were her dressing, carrot salad and green beans right out of her garden. She made pickle relish and jams that were so wonderful. And she made glorified rice which was marshmallows, rice, whipped cream and fruit. Her gravy was so tasty. Everything was fixed from scratch with the best of ingredients. No store bought. Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

My daughter in law fixes a lot too, and we never go hungry. Usually there are 15 or so, but this year, there will only be six of us, so then, it will be more intimate that way. I am looking forward to Thanksgiving as I know we will enjoy sitting around the table and reminiscing. Being with family is the best part of the holiday.

@celticeagle It will be a nice day, and it one day of the year, where we as a family, can enjoy our time together, laugh and just have a great day. We will also have good food as well.

Life changes constantly - what we knew and loved about holidays as kids is so different from what happens in this day and age. We moved south 14 years ago and spend all our holidays jut the two of us and it's actually very comforting. Happy Thanksgiving to you also!
