I am feeling a bit nostalgic this year. Not that I am not every year, I mean if you look in the dictionary under 'nostalgic' my picture will be there. That sort of thing. I miss my family this time of year. This time it will just be my daughter and I. My grandson is spending most of his holiday with his bio dad. That is a good thing. His bio dad didn't even pick up the phone and say 'hi' until his son was about eight years old. There were a lot of questions and now I hope a lot of them are being answered. When I was a young child Thanksgiving was always at Grandma's and Grandpa's. The round table in the living room would be enlarged by two big slats. My uncle and his wife would be there. My mom and sometimes one or two others. So that was about ten. All of those people are gone now except myself and two that I am estranged from. My grandmother's specialties were her dressing, carrot salad and green beans right out of her garden. She made pickle relish and jams that were so wonderful. And she made glorified rice which was marshmallows, rice, whipped cream and fruit. Her gravy was so tasty. Everything was fixed from scratch with the best of ingredients. No store bought.
