Slow Down! What's the Rush?

Following on from my observations yesterday regarding people who allow their dogs to foul the footpath and don't clear it up, I have happened upon another target for my ire while out walking Hugo. I live in a very large residential area which has a 20mph speed limit on all of the roads, which is enforced by numerous, fairly vicious speed-bumps. And by vicious, I mean steep! They don't have teeth or claws or anything like that. Essentially, if I were to drive at 20mph from my house to the main road I would hit about 12 of these speed-bumps and my car would resemble something at the end of the clown act at Charlie Corolli's circus. Anyone following behind me could probably acquire enough stock to set up a fairly viable Peugeot spare parts business. So how come so many people seem to approach these speed-bumps as if they are take-off ramps at a car stunt show? Woe betide anyone who dares to drive within the speed limit. Be stupid enough to try that and you'll have some red-faced, knotty-pated, rampallian (that one was for you @jaboUK ) six inches from your rear bumper looking for all the world like they are desperate to find out what's in your boot. And one of the things I've noticed about these people is that a high proportion of them are young women! Just goes to show. You don't have to have testicles to be a dick!!

Probably they are driving their children to school and running late! There are no speed bumps in Greece but even so people drive nose to bumper at high speed. But I must add that in this case the aggressor is always a man!

This is Greece you're talking about! Just because they have a moustache doesn't necessarily mean they are a man.

A resounding strike at idiotic traffic calming measures and aggressive drivers there, way to go! Reminds me of a joke: Q: How do you find out if a girl's ticklish? A: Give her a test tickle...

If you really want to know how driving should not be done then you should come to where I live. The bus drivers here compete with each other breaking all rules. We do not have speed limits here and that is an advantage for them. Oh yes I forgot to tell you that I have not read the last line in your post

@WorDazza I was travelling in a bus one day. Before getting off I went to the driver and told him that if he wants to end his life there are other ways but we love life. The Passengers were full of appreciation for what I said and they joined me in having their say.

@allknowing It's one thing driving dangerously when there is only you in the vehicle but to drive dangerously when other people's lives depend upon your driving is not right!!

Hey - how did I miss this post? I wish we were notified when our friends do a post. Wot - a high proportion of those rampallians are women?? Sheesh, I wouldn't want to meet one of them ! I don't think I could do a rhyme about them anyway - not many matches - stallion? galleon? naah. Loved your last line.

My suggestion (forgive me for being suggestive) is to set up your speakers next to a speed bump and play Rowan Atkinson's "I Like Bouncing" at full bore. Couldn't hurt, could it?

That is so funny! And so true. Some of the young women around are so bolshie they're scary. Unfortunately many have absolutely no regard for the rights of anyone else.

I sometimes think that they believe equality requires them to behave even more like arrogant young men than even arrogant young men!!!

@WorDazza That's true. Some young guys I know are scared stiff of some of the young women around. The boys have been brought up with a few manners and don't quite know how to react to these fiery ladies. Hold a door open for them and you're liable to get a mouthful.

A bunch of speed bumps would drive me insane, although I'm sure that cuts way down on the speeding! People do about 50mph up my road, which is a 30 mph road. I bet a speed bump would eliminate that problem... just put it at the end of my driveway so I don't have to drive over it! LOL

Maybe you should sneak out one night and build one. Take the early morning speeders by surprise!

Everyone is in so much of a hurry that obviously speed bumps are no impediment. lol and yes, great ending.

I was driving in a 30 zone the other day and someone was right in my boot, then they over took me. A few hundred yards later we entered a national speed limit zone and I had to overtake them again. I think they were under the impression that you should drive at 40 at all times!!! Grrrrrr

Yeah that really annoys me! I think some people haven't a clue about speed limits so just stick to something fairly middling in the hope they won't be too far over the limit if they're caught speeding!

Most of the speeding drivers I see are men. But most of the "dycks" I see who won't let me merge are women. What gives?

The local chavs in their illegally modified cars which are barely an inch off the road make me laugh. There they go, speeding along the high street and when they get to the speed bump they have to practically stop. It makes no difference; you can hear the scrape of car bottom on road as they go over. They may as well carry on speeding, then they could simply fly over.

I suspect you may be right. I think some of them aren't bothered about damage to the car as they're probably company cars that will just get fixed without it costing them anything.

@WorDazza yes I always think that they are company cars too. Or yobs that have just stolen the car anyway !
