White elephant gift trade

Have you ever done this? Bring a gift, wrap it, people pick gifts, people steal gifts, hopefully everybody ends up with something they like. Well we did that at my sister's last night, only nobody had to bring anything. You see, the local casino gives things away to members every Sunday, and my sister and brother-in-law had built up a huge collection of things that they never opened. I started with an iPod/iPhone alarm clock, but traded it on an auto accessory set (cus my kids' iPhones are newer models than this accomodated). Tony ended up with a grill and cooler set. I got a new knife set too. Wendy's sister-in-law ended up with a nice Pandora style bracelet, there was a blender, a coffee maker and a few other things. The iPod/iPhone alarm clock thing went unclaimed.

That is a neat thing to be able to participate in. Too bad the iPod/iPhone weren't more up to date.

We did that at a place I worked at a few years ago. You had to bring something in order to participate and I didn't bring anything, so I just watched.

Never thought of this happening, but now that you bring it up, it all looks to be a great fun and also a neater way to declutter. So, is it that everyone is allowed to pick up what s/he thinks can be good for him/her and another one - is everyone allowed to pick just one?

You take numbers and pick in order. Gifts are wrapped, so you don't know what you're getting. Next person can steal yours or open a new one. Things can only be stolen twice. If yours is stolen, you can steal something else or pick again.

@ElizabethWallace I try to stick to a $20 limit no more than once a month, and if I lose, or if I double my money or more, I walk out... Then again,, I don't always follow the rules...

@dawnald Now THAT'S funny. I don't go to casinos anymore, but when I did, I broke even mostly. My percentage supplemented their retirement by going to Vegad. They always came home with a few thousand more than they started with.
