We spent a few days in Freiburg, Germany, on our travels. Freiburg is in the Black Forest area. Vince had met a physiotherapist in Nepal who invited us to visit her when we got to Germany.
We stayed at a well-appointed caravan park a short distance from a train service. Freiburg is predominantly a university town. The university is known as the Freiburg University of Mining and Technology. Until the end of the 14th century, there was extensive mining for silver in the area.
The authorities actively discourage motorists but there are cyclists everywhere. They are well catered for with cycle lanes throughout the city. The central area of the city is almost car-free but well-equipped with trams.
I liked some of the street art and sculpture that was on display and it contrasted strongly with some of the older monuments. You might notice a pair of scissors set in mosaic in the pavement. This is outside the doorway of a hair salon. Other shops also had their mosaic 'statements' on the pavement outside their doors. The one with the two dates is, I think, outside the town hall. I don't know what happens if the hair salon is sold to a butcher.

Thanks very much. It is hard to keep the photos to a minimum but there were so many interesting things that we saw.

I have never been there but, if we make it back to Germany someday, I know I will want to see them.

We found so many things that were different from what we're used to. I think it was mainly the age of things that had us reeling.

I'm glad you like them. I had to keep my camera at the ready sometimes as some I had to snap as we went past. I don't think I did this with any of these.
