I'll call in an hour and 20 minutes

I was looking at my hours this morning before leaving work. I can check my hours at home but I needed to check them in the store to see if I needed to come in an hour later or not. In any case at work I can see a bit further into the scheduling week. Saturday I was supposed to have off but apparently I don't. I requested it off about a week or two ago, certainly within reasonable time. My manager told me he would "see what he could do." Well I am going to call this morning and talk to the direct manager over my manager. This manager is over our department. I'm going to talk to him about Saturdays and how it is unfair that I am always working on Saturday. I have worked almost every Saturday of this year up until we had the old part timer and even then it was only about two or three months of me working every other Saturday instead of every single one. I just want a Saturday off every once in awhile, one of my coworkers is going to have to cover it this Saturday. I feel certain that I can work something out, but I have to start being a bit more firm in my requests because I'm tired of being used. Other then that I am happy with my job and don't want to change it. Did you ever have to get down right firm about something work related?

When I worked at Subway I told them I could work the occasional Sunday. Sunday is usually a family day as hubby is off, but he typically works Saturdays... so Sunday is the only day we're all home. I ended up working every single Sunday because everyone else always requested it off... and the girl I came in after always left the biggest messes that I had to clean up. I ended up telling them I wouldn't work Sundays anymore, and it wasn't long after that I ended up just quitting because I'd found a better job.

I hate how employers will use you like that. I've known a few people who have said "I can't work Sundays as I go to church" and then the employer always says something along the lines of "Just work the next two Sundays please" and it never ends up being JUST those two Sundays. I had a nightmare because of this stress. I'm going to have to go in tonight and put my foot down and make him realize how stressed I've become.

@ScribbledAdNauseum My son is also having the same problem. He just told his job that he can't work weekends because he's worked every single weekend since he started and he desperately wanted one off. I don't think it will last long though.. he'll be back on weekends pretty soon I'm sure.

@katsmeow1213 The workforce has got to be fair to one and all. I talked to my manager and told him that I understand WHY I am the most feasible but that he has got to switch me with one of others every once in awhile.

When you got the job did they tell you you would be working Saturdays and it was required? I worked in a call center and Saturdays were mandatory. Getting off on Saturday was extremely hard.

I have been with the same company since 2011 but I switched departments about three years in. This whole "Saturday" thing has really only been happening for most of this year. I understood when I was the only part timer but then we got another and they finally started rotating. That only lasted a couple of months before the guy left, now that we have a new guy they need to cut me some slack again. This time it is a bit different because the guy isn't as capable of doing the job but that doesn't mean they can't have someone else rotate with me.

Yes, I had to be firm, say "no" and talk to the right people. Good luck.

I had a nightmare because of the stress of this. I know all I really need is one extra day off to "Reboot" so to speak.

but f you go over your first bosses head it usually starts up a big rift between them and you

My boss is the one that makes the schedule but he isn't the last approval on it. It actually goes to the higher up before it is completely approved. It doesn't cost a rift, atleast not in this circumstance. Besides that, I might be firm but I'm not mean about it.

I only work four days a week but it's the constant fri-sat-sun that gets to me. I do have this Saturday off thankfully. I've talked to my manager and while I understand WHY I am voted most likely to work, I told him he could switch me to Tuesday night and let one of the others work Saturday night for a change.

Why do you want the Saturday off?

I have worked EVERY SINGLE SATURDAY for I don't know how long. It's not just Saturday either, I work the entire weekend.

I wonder why the others cannot work on Saturday. It is a pain to work every Saturday, unless you do not have a family and all your friends can take off on weekdays. I think you can talk to your immediate boss again, before you talk to his boss.
