Cue the Twilight Zone Music...

I recently read posts by @dalane and @inertia4 about some eerie experiences they had. Sent chills down my spine! But it reminds me of an experience I had as a child. My family had rented a vacation cottage on the shores of a lake in a popular vacation spot. It was an old, historic 2-story house, and the bedroom my brother and I were sleeping in was upstairs. On the morning of our first day there, I was looking out the bedroom window, and in addition to the beautiful view, I could also see my reflection in the glass. But in addition to my own reflection in the window, I could see behind me a couple of buoys and rope laying on the bedroom floor. Yet, when I turned around, there was nothing on the floor! But as soon as I turned to face the window again, I could once again see the rope and buoys in the reflection! Thinking it was an optical illusion, or that the objects were somehow reflecting from outside, I went downstairs and into the yard and searched all around. There was no rope or buoys anywhere in site. I didn't say anything that day, but the next morning at breakfast I mentioned it to the owner of the house, who had stopped by to see how our vacation was going. She turned pale white when I mentioned the rope and buoys. She had said she had seen the same thing before in that very same room! She then told us that the original owners of the house had a child who lived in that bedroom that drowned in the lake. After the drowning, the family couldn't stand the heartbreak of being in that house and sold it and moved away. The owner said that she often saw the rope and buoys in the reflection in the glass in that room, but that I was the first person other than her to ever mention seeing them. It freaked me out so much that I couldn't sleep in that room for the rest of our vacation. Instead, I slept downstairs on the couch. I was afraid to even go back into the room again for fear of seeing the rope and buoys in the window reflection again! I was also convinced that I would see the ghost of the child who drowned!

@moffittjc I don't blame you for not wanting to go back there. It's kinda special too in a way. Yes creepy but you were and maybe are still in tune with all that. Though apparently children are more in tune. Either way, very interesting story. So glad it's daylight right now lol

I'm going to wait until it's midnight in WA, then I'm going to start telling you lots of ghost stories! Haha, just kidding, I wouldn't do that to you! Not unless I was there to protect you from all those ghosts and monsters!

That is really creepy. The fact that this was seen by two other people, adults for that matter, makes you think it was a ghostly apparition. Interesting story.

@dalane Thanks for writing your post! It gave me the chills, and also the inspiration to share this story!

That is strange. Now, what I would have done, just to be sure, would have been to go to a joining room, one next to that one. Go to the window facing the same way and see if I could see the buoy and rope in the reflection of that room. Then, if I didn't, then I would know that something was strange in that other room.

@moffittjc I hear that. It was a long time ago. I think we are all entitled to have a strange experience like this. Personally I think everyone had some sort of a strange experience. But not everyone talks about it.

I don't think there was another room on the side of the house where my room was at. But then again, that was eons ago, so I can't recall for sure. But as a kid, I wouldn't have had the brains to think logically like that, although I did try to find the source of where the reflection of the rope and buoys were coming from!

@inertia4 I agree with you in that everyone will have a strange experience at some point in their life. Sometimes, these experiences may be explainable, sometimes they may not be. I often enjoy hearing people talk about their strange experiences. Sometimes their stories will send chills up my spine!

Wow now that is a story of paranormal! Amazing how the next world gets tangled up in this one. Yes, it must have been the poor drowned child trying to communicate.

This is a creepy story, not all people can see ghosts, but it seems you can see them.

@moffittjc you are right, not the ghost but an imprint from the past. I think that if you stayed in that room, you would have seen the boy.

@LadyDuck That's what I was afraid of, and exactly why I couldn't sleep in there any longer. But, even sleeping downstairs on the couch, I still had frightening images of a drowned child coming down the stairs toward me in the middle of the night! Needless to say, that wasn't a very fun vacation for me!

I don't think I saw a ghost, as I never saw the "drowned child" or heard anything while I was there. I just saw that ghostly reflection of those objects. As Poppylicious said, maybe is was an "imprint" from the past.

Yikes. I have had an odd experience too. It was at the home of a friend. I walked down the hall at night on the way to the bathroom, and someone/something else was coming toward me and turned into the room first. It/she was short, full of light and ethereal. I turned around and went back to bed. I didn't need to pee that badly.

I think I would have responded in the same way you did! I would have been terrified to continue down the hall to the bathroom!

@moffittjc It was a small bathroom and probably would have been crowded with the two of us in there.

I don't believe in ghostly things, but do believe in imprints. So, I'm going to assume this was just an imprint of something from the past. *grin* {But it is pretty creepy!}

It really could have been an "imprint." I never saw or heard any ghostly beings while I was there, and the new owner of the house said she never saw anything either, other than a reflection that wasn't actually there!
