Santa's Reindeer

Both male and female reindeer grow antlers each year during the summer. However, male reindeer drop their antlers at the beginning of winter, usually in late November or early December. Female reindeer, however, retain their antlers until after they give birth in the spring. Therefore, according to every historical rendition depicting Santa's reindeer, every single one of them--from Rudolph to Blitzen--have to be female, since they all still had their antlers. It's very interesting that I never knew this, until reading some information about reindeer recently. Not that it changes anything, but still interesting nonetheless! Do you know any interesting facts or tidbits as it relates to Christmas?

So I wonder if the six white boomers are males or females? My guess is that they're males or they wouldn't be called boomers so that has sorted that.

came across this data a long time ago, which really throws a different light of Rudolf. Maybe the song should have been "Rudolf the transvestite reindeer"?

It also gives new meaning to his red nose! Maybe it really was a red light district!

I had no idea that was the truth. I wonder if Santa knew it?

Santa was too busy eating cookies and drinking milk and slave-driving the elves in the factory (er...North Pole) to increase their productivity, so he never really paid attention to his reindeer. Maybe he had one too many spiked eggnogs to notice!

@PainsOnSlate That's my guess too! He probably hits the eggnog hard. With nothing else to do up in the frozen North Pole, he probably imbibes quite often. God forbid the big guy actually goes down to the factory and helps his elves! lol

I think that it's the opposite of what other deer are like. At least from what I know about white-tail deer.

@moffittjc I do. But all I know is that you lose a lot of money during that time.

How interesting! I've always told my kids that the animals can talk to them at midnight on Christmas Eve. They've always been in bed by then so not sure if it's true or not. The kids were in bed, not the animals. Although, if my daughter had her way, the pets would all be in bed with her.
