What is it that Makes Life Meaningful?

Despite multiple human similarities, each of us is uniquely different. Physical, mental and emotional attributes differ from person to person depending on gender, race, culture, lifestyle, habits and perceptions. It is this unique blend of distinct characteristics that makes life meaningful for each one of us.
What’s important to one person may not necessarily be as important to another- - -even in the same family. What matters most to you, has the potential of making your life meaningful. It has the potential to guide and motivate you in the pursuit of what your heart truly desires. For example, some persons are naturally drawn to the field of public service like teachers, doctors lawyers, soldiers and social workers, while others may find the arts or science and technology more alluring.
A meaningful life therefore, is where peace and happiness lies. It is a fulfilling life which makes life worth living. I hope and pray that you are fortunate enough [if not already!] to make your life meaningful to yourself, your family and others. Are you? I invite you to share your views here.

I believe, even though I am just a poor Filipino-Canadian, my life has meaning. I may not have a mansion or a luxury car . . I just own an ordinary home and a Ford vehicle. But behind this simple life I feel glad and happy to see our 4 children finished their college degrees, found a decent job, and having happy families of their own. All of these are the fruits of my working my butt so hard! This, I believe, gives meaning to my life!

Very well said @antonbunot
To my mind, all these you have mentioned is a great achievement. Your life has indeed been fulfilling. What more can a person want than to see his/her family well set in life? I'm sure your family is very proud of what you have achieved. You have also showed your children the true meaning of your purpose in life. KUDOS!

How wonderful to hear this from a fellow writer here. Wish more people could say that with confidence.I would think that most of us strive to make their families happy.
So you must be having an extra secret recipe as well.
By the way, nice meeting you here suzzy3

I am never sure whether I am doing right or not because everything was new to me - marriage, children, career ! I just carried on doing what i though was best ,Sometimes it worked and sometimes it failed ! But I carry on doing what I have to do ! Priorities too change wit time and circumstance, so there too one can never be sure ..But I have accepted the fact that taking life as it comes is the best thing that works for me and when you don't look beyond that unless absolutely necessary life does become meaningful since you have your hands full !

Your valuable comment makes a lot of sense @kiran8 I'm sure you are on the right track if you have come this far in life. I am also sure that you are well aware that all things in life like marriage, children, career, come naturally to us and fall in place once you are confident of yourself as you go along life's journey. I especially like your concept of "taking life as it comes." Sometimes, I look ahead and tend to worry, which is not good for my well-being. Thanks for this eye-opener.

@teep11 I totally agree with you that we all have something, however small to contribute to making this world a better place. At the very core of all human beings is the need to love and be loved. Living a good and purposeful life is indeed a blessing. Thank You for your insight.
