In March one of my friends is going on a mini cruise with 4 friends. They are going to sail from Copenhagen to Oslo, and they will be able to spend some hours in Oslo before they sail back. They are not going on this cruise because they want to visit Oslo but because they want to enjoy the ferry journey. They will have a nice meal, listen to music, buy drinks in the bar etc. I have gone on short cruises in Scandinavia in the past. I enjoy the ferry journey and the view from the ferry, but it is also very important to me to leave the ferry once in a while and visit some of the local places. What about you? If you went on a cruise would it be most important to enjoy the ferry journey or most important to visit the local places?

We've done 16 cruises, the latest one being to Russia, taking in Denmark, Finland, Estonia, and Sweden. That was in July and we loved it. It's great to visit all those places, but the 'sea days' were enjoyable too.

That sounds amazing. I would love to visit Russia in the future. A Danish travel agency arranges a cruise between Moscow and St Petersburg, I can't afford it at the moment, but it sounds really nice. Which places did you visit in Russia?

@Porcospino We just visited St Petersburg - it was an amazing place, the cathedrals were very impressive. That's the downside to cruising - you only get a few hours in each place.

@jaboUK I have never been to St Petersburg, but I have seen some very beautiful photos. It sounds like an interesting place to visit.

It is also nice to use a small boat, I sometimes did that in the past. I would like to go on an international cruise in the future.

I like those cruises that stop somewhere too. When we are out the whole day, and the first sight of our ship is really marvelous. It is as if coming home after a long and hard day outside. When we get to the main dining room, and sit down to talk about our day, that is another great experience.

Yes, it is great to visit some of the local places, and it is relaxing to get back to the ship after a day out. When I visited Helsinki I got soaking wet and cold, I enjoyed my sightseeing, but I was also happy to get back to the ship. Which cruise or cruises have you gone on? Which places did you visit?

I've never been on one, I'd probably wait until the kids get a little older to enjoy the experience. I think both matter - the experience and visiting places.

I have gone short cruises in Scandinavia, but it would be amazing to go on a cruise in another part of the world as well. Both things are important, I agree with that. My friend doesn't really care about visiting the local places, but I think that it is an important part of the experience.
