Freaky weather all over.

Hello everyone! It is difficult to make out whether it is due to Global warming, increased carbon emissions, El Nino effect or combination of all, something else or the fury of nature, the weather has become freaky and unpredictable. Winter starts here in New Delhi by the second half of November and by December temperature dips further and we generally pull out our pullovers/jackets/suits etc. However, this time we are into first week of December, yet the winter has not started the way it used to be. Smog in Delhi (not fog) keeps the weather warmer here rather than cooler. Recently, coastal city of Chennai in south of India was lashed with heaviest of rains in last 100 years and it caused massive floods and loss of life and crop and life came to standstill. I am curious to know, are you people also experiencing freaky and unpredictable weather in your areas/cities or it is just happening here?

Yes . It would be sunny then it would have showers . But i like it that it's just showers . At least , there would be no possibility of flood and the surroundings are cooled .

You mean to say that weather changes suddenly at your place. It may be sunny for a while and during the next half an hour, it turns to cloudy and it starts raining. Yes, if weather cools down due to rain, it brings relief.

It means in a place like Switzerland which is compared to heaven on earth, is also getting affected by bad weather and pollution. Hope temperature comes down soon at your place.

@dpk262006 Well, there are different degrees of pollution of course. I cannot say that the air in Switzerland is badly polluted, but when it does not rain for months, you feel a little pollution that comes from the cars and the heating.

@LadyDuck Yes, I can understand that car and other vehicles add to air pollution in dry weather. Are the number of cars increasing every other day on the roads? Here volume of ever increaseincreasing traffic is one of the major reasons for air pollution.

Delhi is in news for smog. today's it is all over the news paper that Delhi's is high in pollutants and it's not good for health. Government has already started levying green tax. not started initiatives to provide Delhi pollution free air.

Yes, you are very right that smog cover has enveloped entire Delhi and it is making weather more warmer. There is no proper sunshine due to smog cover, which is depressing. Yes, National Green Tribunal has already started levying green tax so that unwanted vehicles may not pass through Delhi area for their journey to other States. I feel for reducing the pollution, there are no such efforts, as one would like to see. Even High Court of Delhi has commented adversely on it.

@rocky1980 - Yes, media and its own reach and it has its own pros and cons. We have to accept these pros and cons. Some private TV news channels are really doing the great job of making people aware about issue like cleanliness and their efforts should be applauded.

@dpk262006 but there is one more thing to understand here, that whether media gives such news an extensive coverage or not they will be blamed anyway. The mass movement/protest that took place all over india after Nirbhaya, it would not have been possible without an active media in the country. but yes sometimes they do cross lines for the sake of revenue. I agree with you on this point. Right now, NDTV journalish Ravish Kumar is working hard on Clean and Green Delhi movement. Other channels are also following him.

I have read about the heavy rains and floods in Chennai! It's really been a mixed bag of weather here in Southern California - though it can vary greatly depending what area exactly one lives. It starts from summer. Summer to me has always been days/weeks of heat waves - now it's mild throughout (what a relief) and quite humid. But now the hottest days come in August/September - but not for days on end like before. October brings warm/hot/cooler days in and one can never know how to dress. By November, at least this year, it has actually "felt" like autumn was finally here with the coolness (yet we still had our share of hot days here and there). Now in December it's cold at night and early mornings (it's not really cold by the standards of the rest of the world) but fairly warm during the day - and dry. But overall what is missing is rain - we have been in a drought for years. There seems to be less and less rain - not how I remembered it here in my childhood. This year they tell us we will have having heavy rains in January/February/March - is this really true? In any case, the weather IS freaky - and something on our planet is definitely changing!!

Seemingly, you are also facing freak weather in Southern California. It is good to hear that heat wave has subsided at your place and you are facing pleasant weather as of now. Missing rain and dry spell indicate that weather is unpredictable and your place did not get the requisite rainfall, what it used to happen during the previous years. Hope in coming days, you experience better weather. PS - Hope life is going on smoothly otherwise. It is always good to see you on my posts.

@much2say - You are very right that weather becoming cold in the morning and turning hot during the day time, makes us difficult for us to wear proper clothes. We need to quickly change our clothes, as per the requirement of weather, which is troublesome. It is fine even if you get to respond to my posts even after few days/weeks. Your responses are always welcome. Hope your health gets better soon. I am doing fine. Winter has not yet exactly set in, although morning temperatures have dipped to 11 degree Centigrade, yet day temperatures are around 26 degree Centigrade. Smog (not fog) which is caused due to low temperature, humidity and pollution, make us feel warmer during day time.

@dpk262006 Interestingly, it was actually warm (almost hot) today! As I always say, our weather is a mixed bag, and it's rather difficult knowing exactly how to dress. And this hot/cold business seems to make people sick (as I mentioned in another post now I have a slight cough). Having consistent weather throughout the year would be nice! But I know nature does not work that way. Thank you @dpk262006 - always a pleasure chatting with you! I'm sorry I do not get to your posts soon enough (I make the rounds every now and then - that's why you'll see me too all at once at times - ha ha). Hope you are doing well too! Has any bit of winter come in yet??

@dpk262006 No, I didn't say past few years, I said my whole life. There was a rare and huge hurricane the year I was born. There were winters that were warmer with less snow, and there were winters that were bitterly cold with amazing snowfalls and a couple of intense blizzards during my childhood. I remember one Spring that was so hot, I had planted flowers and they were growing and then suddenly, instead of 90 degree heat, we had an ice storm and snow that fell all over my flowers. That was many decades ago. The weather has always been changeable and unpredictable.

Our weather in Michigan is definitely less cold than normal. It's been about ten degrees above normal with certain days being warmer yet, while others are colder more like normal. It's expected to get less than normal precipitation, although I'm sure we'll get some snow by January and February, we're hoping it'll be minimal compared to what's normal. It's still chilly here at night, but manageable during the daytime hours for the most part. Our change of weather is due to El Nino, or so they say. I don't personally believe in Global Warming. I think much of the changes in weather patterns goes through a cycle and one hundred years ago the technology wasn't what it is now to keep track.

At your place too i.e. in Michigan weather is warmer and is about ten notches above the normal temperature and you are expecting that there may be less snowfall during the coming months. Global warming is one of the factors affecting patterns of weather. No doubt technology has advanced over the years and we get to know about weather changes in advance, however, I feel that nature many a times beats technology.

@MarshaMusselman - You are right that in the past also weather would have remained freaky in many parts but that was not noticed or talked about and now due to awareness we talk a lot about unpredictable weather.
• Midland, Michigan
11 Dec 15
@dpk262006 What I'm saying is that possibly a lot of what's taking place with changes in the climate has happened before because what goes around comes around and there's nothing new under the sun. Because the technology wasn't what it is today, we don't know what the weather was doing a hundred or more years in the past. Nature may beat technology, but global warming isn't a part of nature, it's a man-made idea.

It's here too. We're in the 40s when we normally have snow on the ground and the temps are not going down but continuing into next week. I've even seen squirrels running around and they are usually hibernating this time of year. It's beginning to look like we won't have a white Christmas.

@dpk262006 I have always enjoyed the weather here especially after moving from the East coast to California. However, recently we have found the weather to be a bit unpredictable. What I find pretty intriguing is, the weather changes in one single day/week. Early mornings are really cold at this time of the year and we need to wear woolies plus jackets. But toward noon, when the sun shines brightly it becomes warmer, so we can do without coats/jackets. It is therefore always practical to use layered clothing for one never knows when it would become cloudy and cold again.

You are right about this freaky weather every year you can observe some diffrence in weather. Don't know the exact reason but what I belive that just like any living organism our earth is also ageing and just like living organism the planet earth is also getting sick. Definitely this global warming and carbon emissions had added to it.

Yes, you may be right that earth is aging and it is unable to bear the load of ever increasing population and therefore, weather is getting freaky at many places. Actually the change in weather pattern this year is due to El Nino effect. The unpredictable part is the strength or weakness of El Nino. It seems that El Nino this year is more severe than the past, so a lot of people worldwide are experiencing weird weather.
