What is Your Favorite Breed of Dog?

Throughout my life I have had many different breeds of dog and I am hard put to choose a favorite.
On the one hand, I have had excellent luck with mutts. You know what I mean, the Heinz 57 breed. I have always thought they are the most even tempered.
On the other hand, I do not have any children in my home so I don't have to worry about a dog being child worthy.
Because of that I have found that a Pekingese is a terrific dog for my purposes. Many will disagree saying they are temperamental and not quite as smart as the average dog.
I find they are sweet, loyal, and loving. I also have found that they are smarter than a lot of people seem to think.
So, now that I have said all of that, what do you think? What is your favorite breed of dog?

My favorite breed of dog that I have had is a Rottweiler. I have a female Rott and she is AMAZING with my children and children I have babysat for. She loves kids of all ages, she's sweet and still playful. =) I would never want another breed now that I have had her in my life.

@LovingMyBabies I have always been a bit afraid of bigger dogs. I am a small dog person, but I have heard that Rotts can be great with kids.

We are big dog lovers...well medium actually - but only labs. My family has always had labs and we followed with our first, Abby. We had her 13 1/2 years. Then we got Ruby who has never met a person she didn't love.

@AbbyGreenhill I have seen that with my own eyes. My sister-in-law has a Lab and he is terrific.

@AbbyGreenhill she's beautiful. Once you find a bread you love you must stick to it. Labs are a wonderful breed.

We have several dogs-all different breeds, but can't say one breed is a favorite.

@PatZAnthony That's how I was for a long time. After we saved our first abused Peke we have been leaning towards that type of dog.

Some mutts can be great pets but there does seem to be more pure breeds around now. I don't know that I have a favourite. Border Collies are great but need a lot of stimulation and attention I think. The Maltese-Shih Tzu cross is very popular around here. They are great little dogs too.

@Blondie2222 I think there are so many breeds of dogs because there are so many types of people.
