He is older than me,10 and am 8
Education is his job nothing much expected from him
He is two classes ahead of me and I hope to follow his steps
My brother my role model at school
If he can’t I can’t as well
My hope in education is to go far
My dreams that I hold so dear
My heart so positive and willing
However my dad and culture says otherwise
If he can’t, I can’t as well
A husband you have ready for me
Old enough to be my grandfather and a third wife I will be
A wife and a mother you want me to be
Too much responsibility for me to take
If he can’t I can’t as well
My brother cannot be a father
You believe he is not old enough
Well not until he is eighteen
He cannot fetch for a family you say
And so if he can’t I can’t as well
Say no to early marriages

@Missmwngi Oh that's good. I'm very relieved that it's just a poem.

I think this is a custom of some countries that the family marries off the girls at a very young age. I can't stand this tradition and feel that it is so unfair to all of these young women. Why be forced into a loveless marriage that has no happy ending. Don't parent's realize that their daughters should be happy. they are suppose to be the apple of their father's eye not some burden to have to find a husband for and marry off as quickly as possible. I know if the child won't get married or is not happy the family doesn't care much. Most of these young girls just accept their fate and go along with a loveless marriage. They have the kids, take care of them, and try to abide by what their husbands ask of them. But in reality they are so unhappy and don't really have a life at all. this is way too sad and if I was in their place I would of run away and nobody would of ever found me again.

@Missmwngi Indeed. Makes us feel lucky we don't have to go through that.
