"Monkey Mind" has been used to describe all the incoming thoughts flooding your mind with "noise" when you are trying relax and think of "nothing". Such as when you are having trouble falling asleep. This is what works for me. Close your eyes. Breathe slowly and comfortably. Concentrate on the "in - out -in -out". Say these words to yourself as you are breathing. You will still hear the monkeys. Notice their existence. Don't be angry that they are trying to grab your attention. Keep your focus on your breath. The monkeys become like background noise and eventually fade away. You will be left with peace and calm and quiet. Some people who are not used to calming their mind think that, "breathe deeply and slowly, concentrate only on your breath" is just cliche and something everyone just says. However, it is the very first step needed to quiet your mind. A quiet mind is a place between your subconscious and conscious, where you can program yourself by way of meditations, or affirmations, or very helpful visualization. Observe your quiet mind, still concentrating on your breath. What do you see? What do you feel? Your subconscious may be trying to communicate something to you. I fall asleep most nights to the sound of my breath, "in -out in -out". Before I know it I'm dreaming. Do you have "monkey mind"?

I've never heard it called that, but no I don't have it. I don't have any trouble getting to sleep, but I can see that your method could work for those who do.

No I don't think I have a monkey mind. I think of times past and usually that will put me to sleep.
