Happy Solstice Everyone!

Ireland

This is one of my favourite days when we've reached the depths of winter but after which the days start to get longer. We can now look forward to spring and summer (Commiserations to those of you in the Southern Hemisphere)

I know. We had a little Solstice celebration last night. My Mom couldn't figure out why we had a little party. Ice this morning but first real sun light in days. Happy Solstice to you!!

@buttheadface932 I am determined to celebrate how I believe and feel though the town I live in might want to stone me for it.

And I will be looking forward to Spring from the minute that this happens. Even including a Spring flowering bush.

Yes all us gardeners love spring. I see the hyacinths beginning to poke their heads above ground and snowdrops in bloom because of the mild weather here.

This is one of my favorite days too! I am not a "winter" person. I will be counting down the days until spring arrives!

I always forget when the equinox and solstices and are. .do they occur on the same day every year?

I think they vary somewhat and the day of the Winter Solstice varies between the 21st and 22nd of December. There are probably online calculators which allow you to determine the exact day for the next 1000 years, however an accuracy of 1 day is good enough for me!

@EugenesDDen Oh thanks Eugene, yes that jogs my memory! I know that the pagans in Europe used to conduct rituals on these days holding them sacred. I wonder if anyone still notices when they come by- besides *you* of course?!!
