Somethings Just Aren't Fair

I am furious right now. I recently shipped out an item that I sold through a well known site. It was a vintage pottery item. It was wrapped correctly and securely, marked correctly by the post office and shipped with tracking and insurance. Still it was damaged when it arrived. The buyer refused to file a claim with the post office, although the package was insured. They demanded a refund although my listing states clearly that we do not issue refunds for any reason (thus the insurance). They filed a claim against me. The site sided with the buyer immediately (literally within minutes I got the email). They obviously did not review the listing, my selling reputation (above standard) or any of the facts in the case. And now it seems as if this site is holding my Paypal account hostage until I deposit funds there to cover the cost. I am really furious because this site claims it isn't associated with Paypal anymore, but still can access my account and information. Also, the whole thing was completely one sided. I was wondering if anyone else has had an experience like this when selling online. If so, how did you handle it?

@Ponder243 This person is being totally unreasonable. If you have your policy clearly posted you should not have this problem. What in the world is wrong with this person and why is Paypal getting involved?

@Ponder243 I think I would ask to speak to that customer service agents supervisor. I can't believe they would find that answer acceptable.

That is my biggest question. If Paypal and eBay are no longer affiliated (as they claim) why would Paypal just freeze my account. I spoke to their customer service and the reply I got was "That's just the way it works." which was not what I wanted to hear!! I guess I will just have to chalk this up as a lesson learned and move my business elsewhere! \0/

This is one reason I never got involved in Ebay or other sites similar.

I've dealt with eBay for a long time and I've never had trouble like this before! It's making me wonder if I want to use the site again that's for sure.

This is certainly unfair because you cannot claim despite having insured the item. Naturally it does not surprise me that the site is supporting the customer because they do not want any bad publicity.

Yes, it is unfair. eBay says I have to issue a refund and there's no way to stop the buyer from filing a claim with the PO as well. They could really make out like a bandit on this deal! \0/

That is too bad...Did you have it marked fragile when you shipped it? That may have been the crux of the problem.

Thank you Patsie! I feel as if I were treated unfair. I was told that they always side with the buyer regardless of the situation. I may not have felt so bad over it if they had actually looked at the case! But oh well! No need crying over spilled milk I guess.

I have not had this bad experience selling online. I hope I never encounter this.

I've never encountered anything like that before but wonder if there is any way you can get reimbursed through the postal service since the item was insured? Sound a bit unfair if the buyer won't go to the trouble but maybe you can collect?
