Ladies Burn Those Bras!!

A few years ago I had a Breast Cancer scare, thankfully it all turned out well, no cancer. I had asked my Cancer doctor if not wearing a bra would cause me to have Breast Cancer. He told me he had no knowledge one way or another. So I decided to see what I could find on the subject. Apparently there has been no official study done by the American Cancer Society. Because of that the American Cancer Society discounts all studies done to try and answer this question. There has been 5 research studies and several healthcare providers, including some Doctors and oncologist who do think that tight bras and prolonged wearing of bras maximize lymphatic constriction. 20 years ago or so a married couple of Anthropologists did an independent study on just that question. Their study was done on thousands of women in 5 cities across the United States. Their findings were that the longer a woman wore a bra on a daily basis the greater her risk was to develop breast cancer. In some cases up to 100 times greater was the risk for 24/7 bra wearers compared to women who never wore bras. Still today the American Cancer Society discounts those findings. My thoughts are why take a risk even if some organizations don't believe the findings. My oncologist did tell me not to hurt my breasts, that a hard blow to the breast could cause cancer. Well for me wearing a binding apparatus on my breasts is not normal and could be damaging my breasts. So I don't wear bras, on a daily basis. I only put one on for a formal occasion otherwise I do as the hippies did in the 60's and 70's. I don't wear them. My final word on the subject...." Ladies Burn Those Bras." Image from Google Images.

I can't tell you how freeing it is. I can't stand the feel of wearing a bra. I haven't worn a bra on a daily basis for at least 15 years.

Well if it works for you, I say go for it and enjoy. I find it very painful to move vigorously when braless. So for me, it would be better to not wear it to the formal occasion when I am likely to be more still.

@fishtiger58 having seen pictures of native women who do not wear bras in South America and Africa I would doubt that their muscles are stronger.

@41CombedaleRoad This is what I have read, that bras make our muscles weaker, I really don't know if that's the case, but we all sag. It's the nature of the beast as it were.

@fishtiger58 I know that is what they said about girdles and our abdominal muscles. Now they are back, called body shapers. Oh, and people are buying corsets or waist trainers. Yuck. I did those when I was skinny and they were uncomfortable even then.

I don't wear one in the summer unless I go out but I think I would feel cold without one in the winter.

@41CombedaleRoad I just hate feeling that restriction round me. I have quite a broad back and not too much in front so it's difficult getting a good fit.

I haven't worn a bra, except twice a year (when my sister comes for a visit and takes me out to dinner) for several years. Of course, with as much weight as I've lost, I don't think they make a AAA bra @fishtiger58 .

@trivia79 I have considered something that's 'stretchy' (that'll just hold me in place).

Wow! Twice a year? That's really odd! Don't you wear even a supporter like pads? I mean, even nomads where protections. I'm just curious.

I don't know how much merit a single study has on such a complex subject has. Having said that, I really wish I could get away with never having to wear one again. They're uncomfortable, and unnatural. While I was still working full time, the first thing come off after I got home were the shoes. The second was the bra.

@fishtiger58 My apologies for misunderstanding you. I'm glad that you didn't. have cancer. How scary. But tamoxifen—ICK. And I completely understand you wanted to minimize your risks. And again, I wish you all the best.

@fishtiger58 As far as I am concerned small is best, although I did not think that way when I was in my late teenage and realized I was never going to be a Marilyn Monro.

I love not wearing a bra. I haven't in 15 to 20 years. It's a modern invention that we think we need. We don't.

@41CombedaleRoad I agree with you wholeheartdly, that's all they are mammary glands. Why men are so fascinated with them I will never understand. I would like to take them off and hang them on a hook myself lol.

I wear it even at home because I have 4 brothers, and a son; however, I do not sleep with it, and besides, my brassieres are not tight but just enough to give aeration within.

I love not wearing a bra. I really think that's they way it's meant to be. A bra is a modern invention that was strictly made for the maker to make money.

Isn't it will cause another issue? I think, indecent men out there will probably take advantage of this! How about pads for women (so they can avoid act of lasciviousness from others)?

If a man is going to perform a criminal act against a woman, I really don't think wearing a bra or not wearing a bra is their first thought, or a thought they have at all.

@fishtiger58 Sure! It is not on their first thought. But it CAN be on their thought. There is a wide variety of perspectives regarding this issue. But to narrow it, it's just, possible

Welp... I'm a big girl, and I am extremely uncomfortable if I'm not wearing a bra. I put mine on as soon as I wake up and don't take it off until I crawl into bed. I also do like tighter fitting bras to give me more support. I tend not to spend too much time worrying about what might or might not give me cancer. Anything could cause cancer these days.. the food I eat, the pollution in the air, the fact that my mother smoked while pregnant with me... I could live as healthy as possible and still get cancer... or get hit by a bus! So might as well live the way I choose and at least have a happy life regardless of what ends up killing me.

And that's the beauty of it. We can all make our choices whether we are informed or not. You are right, cancer is everywhere. I love my choice of not wearing a bra. But then I'm not a big girl.

They are hot and uncomfortable. It's a modern invention we were taught to believe we need. We really don't. Sagging is a natural deal, with or without the bra we sag as we age.

When I am at home, I wear loose shirts, so even without a bra you will not notice it. Haha. I am just wearing it whenever I go out.
