Santa Has It Easy This Christmas – The Full Moon

Canada
December 23, 2015 8:19pm CST
Just think of the Christmases that Santa had to fight bad weather. Sleet and snow, high winds and cloudy and dark cold nights slowed his progress many times. Somehow he always got to our house. How does he do that? Santa should have an easy time finding all the children in world world the night before the full moon. Christmas Day's night is the last Full Moon of 2015. A few years ago my youngest son spent Christmas with his girlfriend and her family in Jamaica. He was invited by the girls father and the grandparents. Her parents are divorced and that year she was going to be with her dad for Christmas. Our son was an adult in College, we told him we would miss him but he should take advantage of being able to travel and have a good time. We did miss him. But we knew he was in good hands and was probably enjoying the ocean and the warmth much more than he would enjoy the snow in Canada. The phone ran one night and I picked it up, It was my son saying he was having a great time but wanted us to know he was well and happy. His girlfriend's father wanted to talk to me. I chatted with my son's host for a few minutes when he asked me if I could see the moon in Canada that night. I was standing by the window and said I could see and it was full. He went on to say how beautiful it was and how amazing it is that he and I can carry on a conversation thousands of miles away from each other while looking at the same moon. The world gets smaller and smaller the more technology improves. No matter where you are on the 25th, when you look out the window and see the full moon, just know all of us here on myLot will see the same moon. It doesn't matter if we celebrate Christmas or not, it doesn't matter where we are or who we are, the moon we all see and enjoy is the same moon. Merry Christmas and Have a Happy New Year.

I've often remarked on that to my daughter as she lives on the other side of the world. The only thing is that she is 7 hours ahead, so though it's the same moon she sees it before me.

@PainsOnSlate Yes it can be difficult to find a mutually suitable time, but she'll be skyping tomorrow (Christmas Day) just before we have lunch between 1 and 2pm, which will be 8/9pm for her.

I thought about that as I wrote this, I know Jamaica and Canada are on a close time zone. But in the end its the same moon. It must be interesting to find the right time for the two of you to phone each other.

It kind of brings us all together. It will be magic that helps Santa along his path. And the moon will help in that.

There is something magical about Christmas ... whether there is a full moon or not.

@DeborahDiane ..There would have to be some magic or Santa couldn't get it all done in one night.

Yes, we all will enjoy the full moon tonight. My son just told me it's 15th of the lunar calendar yesterday, and I was like, wow, we get to see a full moon on Christmas night, which I think is great! Wish you a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year too!

For us Chinese, we pray to heaven during the 1st and 15th day of the Chinese calendar. The 15th day happens to be the day of full moon which happens to fall on Christmas day this year. Many households are praying and you can smell the incense sticks and burning of hell money in almost every block.

It is amazing to hear about things we have no knowledge of. Hopefully sites like this one will help all of us to understand others on the other side of our world.

@PainsOnSlate Plus your son was far away and I'm sure it brought him closer with that in mind. It's not like he was on another planet, although for some of us it is if we've not traveled that much.

@MarshaMusselman I've never been to Jamaica, except maybe a stop on a cruise, I was missing my son and thanked that father for making the world a bit smaller that night.
