Really it sounds so. When the boy of my neighbor had been taken to hospital I had been suspecting that there might be some problem with his eyes or some other bodily ailments. When casually after his return, I was informed on inquiry that the boy was unable to sit on the floor. I really wondered. Why a boy of 14-16 years is unable to sit. Is there anything wrong with his legs or with any connected organs..The next day his father told me that he had this problem since 3 years and that he took it light in the beginning. But how can he go for the toilet? was my immediate question. My neighbor replied he was having COMMODE in his house as an alternative. Now I could get the reason for his inability to sit.
The boy was habituated to use Commode and it became his natural way of sitting. Now he is unable to sit on the floor comfortably at least for 2-3 minutes. His legs and the knee joints are totally impaired now.. Now I suggested him to take him to some yoga class and that he would come out of his problem soon. My neighbor replied that it was what the Doctor also suggested.
Totally depending on a Commode is not good. At least, one must practice sitting at least for 5 minutes on the floor. This should be a part of some exercise. If it is not possible at least it should be introduced as a part of some game or some work in the house. Even while using commode one should use specific posture only. They should not sit in a casual way as it may tell upon their leg's activity in future course of time. Always one should see that the spine is erect whie using commode. They should not drop their buttocks and enjoy but should see that the legs are in steady posture not with one leg tiled to the side of the other leg. This is a very very bad posture one should avoid .
Otherwise, people in future will have to go for the toilet in a standing posture.

The problem is sitting on a floor with legs folded We call it padmasana. Sitting on a commode is different from sitting on a floor. Even sitting on a commode requires some basic principles to follow. When sitting on a commode the legs should not be wide apart.

@shivamani10 Now I understand better, he cannot sit on the floor. I believe that many Americans cannot sit on the floor either.

It sounds like the boy has a developmental issue that required physical therapy years ago but was neglected. If it was strictly from use of the commode, every kid I know would have similar issues to what you've described, because that's the norm here in the US.

Sitting on a commode is not at all a reason. While sitting on a commode, he did not follow the minimum principles and continued it for years together which had a bad effect on his legs. In India sitting, only a few houses will have commode facility. Generally, the floor toilet will be there. If due to old age anybody can not use them then they prefer commodes. This boy was having some problem and used commode continuously.
