14 States raised the minimum wage on Jan. 1, 2016
The largest of the raises will take place in Alaska, California, Massachusetts and Nebraska by $1 an hour. New York's will go from $8.75 to $9.00 but fast food workers will receive $10.50 in New York City and $9.75 in other parts of the state.
Washington D.C., Maryland, Minnesota and Nevada will raise the minimum wage later this year
The federal minimum wage is $7.25 per hour at this time.
Will this affect you?

I think this is great Marcy it is about time. People need a living wage, rents are atrocious along with everything else.

That is a terrible rate and yet in fast food restaurants they earn more? Here in the UK the minimum wage is now set at $9.90 (£6.70) but this rate is paid by many companies such as McDonalds and Starbucks. The government make up the low wages through benefits which is disgraceful whilst these companies find ways of avoiding paying tax in our country. They should be forced to pay a proper wage.

@Marcyaz It is often supported by government welfare projects obliging long term unemployed people to work for nothing but benefits - it is virtually slavery

@Marcyaz I will not be affected by the raise of the minimum wage. But I am happy for the people will be. I do have a concern though, I noticed that businesses have been cutting down on the number of employees. I wonder if they will be cutting down even more.
