busy buses

Oh, I didn't realise I am your own personal - perhaps a tad squidgy following the Christmas stuffing of face - leaning post. It's an awkward position to be in. I'm minding my own business, enjoying my own little bubble of personal space which includes me, my thoughts and my mobile phone games. I'm ignoring the folk getting on the bus; it's too early for talk, small or otherwise. The bus fills up. Passengers continue to get on, but very few get off. Seats disappear under the weight of bottoms, bulky coats and aimless chatter. Move to the back! shouts the driver to those who now have to stand. Standing room begins to become non-existent. A woman gets on the bus. She has the audacity to lean against me. It's vaguely comforting, but still annoyingly frustrating. Why must I be mistaken for a pole to lean against? I'm not even skinny like a pole! Should I fidget so that she becomes aware? Do I stop breathing so that she doesn't become aware? What do I do?! In the end this question became redundant. As I began to formulate this post in my head, she suddenly realised that she was leaning on me. I'm so sorry! she gushed. I just smiled, or scowled. I'm unsure which. *grin*

You made me get on that bus with you, I could see it all so clearly. I hope it was a smile that you gave that woman.

@poppylicious That's hilarious! I suppose in anonymous crowds we can start to view people as objects and treat them accordingly. Hope I don't!

an aisle seat is great when getting off, but it also means getting hit by people and their stuff in the meantime.

Especially when they have huge bags and forget they're on their backs. The number of times I've been hit in the face!

I'm sorry! I'm sorry! You made me bust out laughing when you said "It's vaguely comforting!" Atleast she realized her mistake! I imagine she was quite .

It seriously was a little comforting! It reminded me of being little and cuddles with my Mumsy! :)

You are so funny, stop breathing to look like a pole . I am glad she finally realized you are a human being.

I can picture the entire scenario perfectly. I haven't been on a bus since I learned to drive, thank goodness. I always lost my balance when standing in a bus.

I'm an unbalanced sort when standing too. But that's anywhere, not just on the bus!
