How could I have done that?

While I was clearing come papers away, I found an envelope from the DMV, telling me I was eligible for early renewal for my driver’s license. I wish I’d done it right away. My license expired on the 31st. So now we’re going down to the DMV first thing this morning to renew it. The first appointment they had was for January 26th. That wasn’t going to do. This is the first time I’ve let my license expire since I’ve had it and that was a long time ago. Nevertheless, I’m kicking myself. I haven’t driven since I realized it. I won’t do that again.

We go to the DMV in another county about 20 minutes down the road. They are a smaller office (only two on duty) but they are hardly, if ever, busy. Hopefully it won't be too busy for you. Get there BEFORE they open so you are first in line.

@msiduri Definitely Not. Hopefully you can find an office that isn't too far out and that won't be too busy either.

@ScribbledAdNauseum The only practical one is about ten miles away. It's nuts. There's no parking. I remember going there once when I did have an appointment and having to drive around the block for 20 minutes until a space opened up.

I intend to do just that. I looked online. One office is closed for unspecified reasons. But waiting three weeks for an appointment is not an option either.

There's nothing worse than having to go down in person to the DMV. That place is a nuthouse! I wonder if it is as bad where you live as it is for us here in Florida?

Well, I'm bringing a book. I wonder if I should bring a sack lunch and a bedroll? But seriously, I won't make my poor husband wait for me. Parking is impossible for one thing. I'll just call him when I'm done. I expect it will take an hour.

@msiduri The last time I had to go to the DMV, I went super early, getting there like an hour before they opened. There was still about 15 people ahead of me in line, but thankfully it went pretty quickly. I think I was out of there in less than an hour.

@moffittjc That's precisely what I did this morning. It started raining. But once I got it, I was out of there in 15 minutes.

Fortunately you have not been caught driving without a license. I think you must have put aside the letter, thinking that you still have time. I have learnt the hard way not to do that. I have learnt to get things done fast, so that I can just forget about it, and rest in peace.

Yes. But it's been less than a week. I think I can go that long without getting stopped for something. . I should have sent it the day I got it, but I did a complete mind wipe.

I always renew mine as soon as I get the reminder, otherwise it gets forgotten. I'd hate to not be able to drive if it lapsed.

I'm doing that from no on. I'm not going through this again.

That is annoying. It is just so much easier to do these things ahead of time or at least when they're due. Hope you don't have to wait too long.

Yes. And if I hadn't completely forgotten, I would have done it that way. Next time, it goes out in the mail the day after it comes.
