An update on my New Year's hospital stay!

Well, I'm still in the hospital, but sure am praying I can go home tomorrow. Of course, that's what I think every day and then something else changes that.
As I wrote before, I went to Urgent care because I was light-headed and about to pass out for three days. When the doctor found out my hgb was extremely low, she rushed me over to the ER. I was admitted to the hospital where I received two blood transfusions.
I had surgery 2 days later and got along really well, thought for sure I would go home the next day. Then my blood pressure dropped extremely low so that held up my going home.
I truly appreciate all your prayers and well wishes. IF my bp is up enough and IF my iron is up enough, maybe I'll go home tomorrow.
The hospital staff has been wonderful, the meal service, not so much. But that's another whole story of its own.

@1creekgirl Yes, I take iron pills, but initially when I go on them they make everything I eat go right thru me, so I end up losing a lot of weight quickly-which is not healthy. So, instead of taking them every single day, I only take them every other day. My doctor has advised me that I should be taking 2 pills every day until I go thru the change and then 1 a day for probably the rest of my life. I cannot imagine that. Can I ask what kind of surgery you underwent?

@Juliaacv I had surgery to correct a long-time large intestinal blood loss. I wasn't aware of it, at least not to that extent. Hopefully now I will be ok once I get my iron and blood pressure up. Sure has left me awfully weak, but I guess that's to be expected.
If the iron pills cause you problems, are you able to help by eating more iron-rich foods?

This is so different for me. My iron has always been high (Hgb usually around 14 or 15, this time it was 7), but am home and on iron pills, recovering from surgery. The two blood transfusions helped also. Do you take iron pills?

I've learned it's nothing to play around with. I felt weak for several weeks actually, and that third day of almost passing out sent me to the Urgent Care. That's where they discovered my Hemoglobin was extremely low. The two pints of blood transfusion I received helped a lot but my level is still very low. Hope your friend is better now.

I hope you are all better now! Did the doctors know the cause of low blood pressure though?

The low hgb came from so much blood loss, but not sure why my bp dropped so low. It's come up a little, so that's helping.

Well, since my iron is really low and I am supposed to take iron pills that I have not been taking-I think you just convinced me to listen to the doctor about it.
I'm sorry your stuck in the hospital-I hate those places. I hope you get better really soon so you can go home again.

I came home today, praise God! Having low iron isn't something to take lightly. If it gets too low, you can die. Please don't forget to take your iron pills and have your doctor keep a check on your levels. My iron was always higher than most so this is strange. But I'm thankful to be home, on iron pills, and recovering from surgery.

20 years ago I was admitted to the hospital and every day I thought I would come out. I ended up being there 3 months and had 3 surgeries.
Still have problem with my iron and other things. Not fun for sure.
I hope that you get well SOON and will be thinking about you.
All the best,

I spent New Year's weekend 1999-2000 in the hospital with congestive heart failure--hate to say it but my experience that weekend helped me get through the 5 other times, for various reasons, very easily.
Don't rush to get out--come to my hospital where you order gourmet meals!!

Thanks Dianne. I'm home now and praying that my hbg level and bp are going up. I'm definitely doing better, but still really weak at times. With God's healing touch, I'm sure I'll be well soon.
